I have made a post at Nvidia describing (
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=35500&view=findpost&p=255428) some of the issues with screen shots. Please look at that so we can maybe get some consistency and some interesting comparisons. In particular, I noted that the quality of the screen shots depends strongly on how they are processed. I'll repeat the offer I made there: if anyone wants to e-mail me unprocessed original PCX screen shots taken with an 8000 series card, describing where they were taken, I can make a side by side comparison using Hypersnap (a good editor) with the 4200 (all good), and the 7950GT (bad sky + some bad textures) with your 8000 shots (bad sky + all bad textures). I'll do this for a few cases that illustrate the point and post them here and at Nvidia. Send me a PM to get the e-mail exchange rolling.

I'll send you some GE80 screens with the 5900xt screens i'll get this week, just as i've said.
I could also get some 7300 and 7600gt screens if necesary, but i think with a Ti4200, fx5900xt, 7950GT and 8800GTS we'll have enough to prove our point.

Bikerdude, did you try Thief-1 with 163.44 drivers? Is this functioning?© With or without "anti-blackscreen fixed .exe"?
Im only running Thief 2 these days. And the 163.71 driver on my 8800GTX with-out corrections to the cfg files

At the risk of being repetitive, but to make sure everybody is aware of this information, I have just made three posts at the Nvidia forum in which I compared five video card / driver combinations in three original mission scenes.
The cards / drivers are:
Ti 4200 with 4xxx drivers (smithpd)
FX5900XT with 66.93 drivers (ef di)
FX5900XT with 162.18 drivers (ef di)
7950 GT with 84.56 drivers (smithpd)
8000 GTS with ???? drivers (ef di)
The scenes are:
Running Interference, start of mission
Eavesdropping, Karras' loft, first level
Eavesdropping, Karras' loft, second level
Screen shots edited using consistent settings and a summary of the rendering errors are given in the following posts:
(
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=35500&view=findpost&p=258970) Running interference, start of mission
(
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=35500&view=findpost&p=258972) Eavesdropping, Karras' loft, first level
(
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=35500&view=findpost&p=258976) Eavesdropping, Karras' loft, second level
This discussion shows the gradual degradation of Thief 2 graphics with higher models of Nvidia video cards and drivers. The worst of the worst is the 8000 series, in which all dark textures are rendered with limited color pallette and without dithering. In short, crappy colors.

Everyone, please, our best bet for fixing this is to try to persuade nvidia to resolve this issue in one of their future driver releases, as it is without a doubt driver-related. By discussing this matter on the nvidia forums we show them that we're concerned and we would like to see this problem resolved.
If you would like to help solve this problem, join the discussions on the nvidia forums by following smithpd's links above.

Yes, everyone, please post on the Nvidia forums (I have already posted once :))
Btw, the only other PCI or PCI-E card I have is Ati Rage II, I doubt it works good/at all with Thief since it's so old, is it worth trying it though?

But, I remember playing Thief 1 with it at least once. Or maybe it was in software mode.. I'll try the card some day with my older computer and see if it can run Thief in hardware mode.
Anyway, let's get back on topic now...

I played all TDP on ATi Rage Pro (Rage II is even older). You can turn on Hardware Mode, but it still looks like software: pixelized textures, opaque water and so on. You can play TDP/TG in Software mode with any videocard. ATi Rage 128 is low-end for T1/T2.

Ok thanks for the info :thumb:
