Hi guys,
Please dont get mad . YES i researched and read Faqs And stickies ....still cant get thief2 to run on xp. Tried quick fixes like changing compatability to 98 in propertys , the regsvr32 fixes, reloading indeo codecs old & new. I did not try the DDfix because my pc is 10 or 12 yrs old . My proccesor is a pentium 3 w/700mghs so no dual core.Thief ran fine until recent pc crash then reload.I think 1 of the up dates for XP service pack 2 is what screwed it up but i dont know which one or i would uninstall. I've had thief2 on this same pc for all these years now this ..Please help me.

Hi trigger68,
You didn't explain what exactly is happening... is it crashing as soon as you click on the icon? Getting to the menu?
Any error messages come up?

Thief2 loaded but when i click icon i get a black screen then an MS message to send error. Thief did work then this started , i dont know what changed..
Thanx

I wonder, have you tried the thief2.exe replacement file? It should be in the faq as well.

Could you let us know what specifically the error says? It should say what 'module' it crashed on... it will probably be THIEF2.EXE, THIEF2.ICD, or LGVID.AX.

No i did not try thief2 replacement file and error message doesnt say what error is....but when i run a registry checker it says something about thief2 and active X ..and LGVID.AX ...

Ah. Well if you've run a registry checker and removed anything to do with lgvid.ax that'd be a big problem right there.
Somewhere in the FAQ it tells you how to re-register lgvid.ax. Alternatively, installing ddfix will do it for you every time you start the game if you set the video fix in ddfix.ini, thus making it so you don't have to worry about it.

ok attempting theddfix...i dont know if this is lazy but are all hex editors the same? and is the ddraw.dll file found on same line in hex editor? ....if so does someone remember what line its found at? I sat for an hour already and not even close to be done going thru all the files.....once again thanx for all your help...

Most hex editors allow you to search for text - search for ddraw.dll in the Thief2.exe and it should be the first one you find.
I don't think the location of the call to ddraw.dll is the necessarily same for different PC's since some people will have patched using the Premier patch.

Ok ..there is a find feature on this hex editor however when i try to find ddraw.dll all it does is highlight the first letter in the first row of code. What do ya think try a different editor?thanx again
