Alright, I knew this day would finally come... I have Thief2 install problems due to the fact that the game is too old comapred to my hardware.
After installing, the intro movie plays OK, but as soon as it comes to the main interface I'm getting a black screen and an error message that Thief2 has a problem.
I have:
Athlon 64x2 dual core, Nvidia 9600GT, Win XP
I read the FAQs. I used the dual core fix with creating a processor.bat file. Still it doesn't fix it.
I've read that with Nvidia 9x drivers the only solution is to downgrade to 8x version. Yet this is a hard way to do that. With the downgrade you never know, some of the new programs might stop working.
My question is: has anyone tried this? I'm sure there are a lot of taffers out there with dual-core computers and Nvidia 9x drivers. How did you solve this? Is there any other way? How can I run my good'old Thief2? :)

Try ddfix... I haven't tried it with nvidia, but it works with the new ATI drivers. It has a lot of other advantages too, it doesn't shift resolution down to 640x480 all the time when set up correctly.

OK, I see.
This thread probably belongs to: Community Center -> Legacy Gaming Technical Help. Apologies for posting here.
Yes, I found DDFix tutorial in the Sticky of Tech help section. It seems quite complicated, but I will try to install it and hopefully this will fix it.
EDIT: I used DDFix. Thief2 runs fine. My question is do I need to patch Thief and Dromed or is it included,as I replaced thief2.exe file with the new one?

Each dark engine game needs to be patched by ddfix separately, it actually modifies the exe file for the game (changes exactly three bytes actually)
