Hi,
I did managed to install the game (using TGTool, yes I know it's for thief Gold, but I was totally tired and missed the other options :erm:), but I had graphic problems:
low details (the water looks solid, everything looks so dark that even in full brightness I can hardly see) and I can't read readables.
I tried installing NewDark MOD ver 1.22 and Tafferpatcher.
After installing Tafferpatcher the graphic is better, but the readables are still blanck and some walls, floors and rooms/areas are all black, until I inter them (then the area I came from is totally black).
Tring Windows 8 compatibility troubleshooting only made things a brighter and the water looks very dark, but more water like (not solid), but it didn't solved the other problems.
I had no problem playing in this laptop with windows XP.
I playing on my laptop (HP Pavilion dv5), OP is windows 8.1, graphics card (GeForce 9600M GT) driver is up to date
Please help this poor taffer. :(:angel:

Have you run Thief 2 in compatibility mode for Windows 98? Have you set it to run as administrator?

I did run it as administrator and tried compatibility mode for Windows 98, windows XP and also tried the troubleshooting option.

I've moved you back to Tech and Troubleshooting, Liz. You were in the right forum to start with.
Just to be clear, after using the TGTool, you did a completely fresh install and ran Tafferpatcher (which includes NewDark v1.22)? You don't need to install NewDark v1.22 as well.

I afraid to say I did not do it on a clean install of thief.
Maybe you can instruct me on how to do things right from the start?
I deleted the thief folder content, how do I start?
If I remember correctly, before I copied the content of the Thief folders from both Thief 2 discs. Is that the right thing to do?
What should I do next?

It's best to start with a clean installation if you're having problems.
After installing T2 (C:\Games is best), just run Tafferpatcher and select what options you want. I generally leave out Enhanced water as I find there's sometimes a conflict between that and some custom water in some fan missions. But I select everything else. You may not want Dromed though.

Install by copying the Thief folder from the CDs, right?
What version of Tafferpatcher do you recommend? Is the 2.14 beta OK?

I generally use the install thingy from the discs though I believe they can just be copied over. And yes, that Tafferpatcher version is fine - ignore the word 'beta'.

I as happy as a taffer in the eve of a new FMs contest :D
Now all that left is to know who to play FMs here - I copied a archived FM folder to the FMs folder and clicked the FM shortcut, but can't see the FM in the opened window, tried moving it to the .fmsel.cache folder, but still can't see it.
