LONDON (Reuters) - Intelligence comes second only to smoking as a predictor of heart disease, scientists said on Wednesday, suggesting public health campaigns may need to be designed for people with lower IQs if they are to work.
Research by Britain's Medical Research Council (MRC) found that lower intelligence quotient (IQ) scores were associated with higher rates of heart disease and death, and were more important indicators than any other risk factors except smoking.
Honestly, I'm not even so sure where to begin. There's a part of me that says that anyone who gulps Big Macs probably has a lower intelligence to begin with, but there's also another part that says that its a pretty stupid assumption to make that being stupid is a direct cause of health disease. Isn't more likely that people with substantially lower IQ's are going to have bottom wages and therefore eat an unhealthier diet?

I thought stupidity was more closely linked to Darwin Award-esque type deaths.

Near as I can tell, stupidity is linked to being in front of me at the grocery store. And cell phones.

Also; Predictor isn't the same as cause, Einstein.

But they didn't say that. You are seeing
cum hoc ergo propter hoc where none is even implied.

In other news, europeans who wear scarfs are more likely to have been in trouble with the police. :D
