Thief the Dark Project is a bad game, but Thief 2 and 3 was a step in right direction - by SolidSnakeRoll

I consider Thief Dark Project on par level with Hitman Codeman 47 where it didnt truly get good til the sequal. Only difference is Hitman was treated with more respect due to the developers knowing what Hitman is "Outside that one bad game called Hitman Absolution". But generally its good...
But even then i rather prefer the plot of Hitman Codeman 47 over friggin dinosaurs in Thief The Dark Project. I still dont know what drugs they were on when they decided that. But i do hope if they remake it they may add Super Mario and Luigi stomping on it saying "Oh letsa go!" WAHAAAA! "Garret hears in the far away distance"

In video game development, creative risks are frequently taken, and it's well understood that not every innovative concept will gain universal acclaim. This dynamic was particularly evident in the case of Thief: The Dark Project. Even today, the gaming community remains split between those who applaud the game's unique focus on non-human or supernatural elements and those who hold a special fondness for its sequel that prioritises typical burglaries. Personally, I prefer the former.

I dont mind supernatural elements but they have to be subtle elements.
- Zombies (A little tedious due to how slow they are but ok, i can buy that)
- Ghosts (Works too. Medieval superstition was a thing afterall)
- Trees chasing you in Thief 2 (That too i dont mind, also they look insanely creepy and well executed).
But... dinosaurs is where i put my foot down. If it was Turok, King Kong or Jurassic Park then thats a fiction built into itself due to place being supernatural. But i just really feel like i cant think of Thief Dark Project without poking jokes at why they thought it was a good idea. Its not fantasy like Elder Scrolls but kinda mythological medieval realism. So its one thing that always rubbed me wrong way when i tried to get into it but i just couldnt

I definitely preferred the mysterious and sorcerous feel of T1, even though most of my favorite levels are in T2. The actual stealth gameplay was better in T2, but there's just something about the atmosphere in the original game that I love.

T1 wasn't thiefy enough for me. Stealing from caves, caverns and abandoned buildings wasn't as much fun as stealing from houses, mansions, and banks. I did still like the story a lot though and the atmosphere with the haunts really creeped me out in some of the levels. Did n't like T3 much at all. Apart from how the game itself had changed I didn't like how Garret's charcter had changed either. Almost like a wannabe hero instead of reluctant. The initial stages of the cradle were the only really worhtwhile part of that game. If I ever win enough on the lottery I'll waste it on trying to get the rights to Thief and remake T3 more in line with 1 and 2.

Why do you think they are dinosaurs? That never even crossed my mind. They're just some kind of creature that lives underground and belches lethal gas. Which I'm pretty sure no dinosaur ever did.

"Thief the Dark Project is a bad game"
You could've stopped right there, then deleted your post.
You're entitled to your opinion even if it's wrong!
There are so many elements to that first game in the series that make it great. Granted there are some strange things like Burricks, but the terror and anxiety inducing game play in the dark it produced when it was first released was amazing as is the overall story and character building. I had just finished playing through Half-Life, which took me 22 days with no cheats, when I got T1 as a Christmas gift. I still have those DVD's and it is probably still one of the top Christmas gifts I've ever received. T2 definitely had some improvements with graphics and city maps but the final mission in T1 was much more fun than the finale in T2. Even today I play super popular games like GTAV but get bored and go back to playing T1 OM's and FM's. Autumn in Lampfire Hills is one of the greatest fan missions of all time and it was built from T1 DROMED.
I feel old now....

Am I the only person who liked Sabotage at Soulforge? I thought Maw was too short, too linear, and too easy.
