Was going to make a new thread, but considering there's this thread about pre-ordering, well, THIEF is now available for pre-order on Steam:
(
http://store.steampowered.com/app/239160/)
Finally has an official release date which I didn't know about. Also, I'm surprised but the regular edition is only 49.99. I thought it'd be the standard 59.99 price point. I wonder why they ended up going with 49.99? We can only speculate. Personally I'm going to wait until THIEF is released and see how it goes.
I hate pre-order deals. On the one hand, I love that there's the extra content and I definitely want to get it, but then I also don't want to buy early. I was sure I was going to get this game, but after everything I've read and heard about it, I'm going to wait until I hear reviews on it to make a decision. I was also hoping a THIEF title would not do the whole pre-order shit. Just goes to show that THIEF is yet another mainstream title that takes part in this practice. Just makes me disappointed.:erg:
All that said, I still hold out hope that THIEF isn't going to be a complete disaster of a game.
If you'll allow me, I'm going to rant a bit about pre-order stuff:
I don't get it. If the content is already made, why can't it just already be in the game itself? I hate that they makes us pay extra money for content that could already be in the game. I think it's one thing to make DLC later on down the road, and another to have it already ready when the game comes out which suggests that they just took some content that was already done and turned it into DLC for a pre-order.

There's a "Master Edition" available too:
Normal price on Steam - $52.99.
If you preorder, you get a 10% discount, which comes to $47.69.
Some odd numbers there.
Still though, a pretty good deal over the $60 people will shell out for the console version.
Not much listed on system reqs yet, just Vista/Win7/Win8 and 4 GB RAM, DirectX 10/11.

AUDs weren't bad it was giving you them at the start was bad. What was worse was the high power sniper rifle and 1000 credits pack.

FYI, the detailed description of the "Master Thief" edition mentions giving the player extra gold and arrow capacity, poppies, and "Choke arrows."
I'd say that sounds ridiculous, but moss arrows probably got the same response way back in the day. :laff:

On the one hand, considering this is a triple-A release, 47 bucks for a brand new game is a tempting deal, surely they know they have an uphill battle selling this game. On the other hand, I'd concede that this sort of pricing isn't entirely unique, at least for PC releases. Those preorder bonuses are lame. Preordering is lame.

Preordered, hope I finally could enjoy it... BTW: for Russia/CIS region it costs bit more 700 RUB, so, here it is less risky pre-order:)

"Choke arrows."
Whoever designed that little ditty clearly didn't think through to the logical conclusion of just putting a standard broadhead arrow through someones throat.

One would be lethal and the other not, no?
One would have an area effect and the other not, no?

Depends on the mechanics. If it's like a gas arrow but releases an area effect choking substance that makes guards cough and struggle for breath temporarily I'd say its completely different to moss arrows and gas arrows. Moss and gas have effects that cause alertness - moss because the guard hit knows he's been hit and gas because other guards will become alert when they find unconscious guards.
A choke arrow could just distract guards by making them cough and splutter. It could affect a small room and so potentially 2 or 3 guards who are together. They wouldn't be alerted necessarily, just cough and complain. But it could distract them so you can sneak past and it could stop guards on patrol routes whilst they cough to give you more time to, for example, pick a lock.
We don't know how they'll work yet.
