Is anyone else insanely frustrated with the Eidos mods' sycophantic line-toeing and teat sucking?
I'm all for optimism but they seem past all hope of credibility by now.

DLC just makes me want to wait 2 years and buy the whole "gold" edition (or whatever they choose to call it) for a knock-down price. I was planning an early purchase, in the first few weeks, but this has conclusively put me off. I still haven't got Shogun 2 yet, for the same reason.
And I certainly don't want to be timed against other people in how quickly I do a mission. If anything, I take pride in taking a long time to do a mission, it shows thoroughness of approach. But that's just my own play-style, I equally don't want to push my particular slowness style. Thief should be about you performing a task in a way of your choosing.
The game itself looks "ok", I'll still probably pick it up when it goes in the bargain bin. But I'm definitely not overwhelmed with it.

hang on, who's posting the 'hey guys I am not funny' picture again?

Well, I thought it was kinda funny.

Maybe the bow upgrade is in the bank vault.
Perfect!

Ah, you can always count on Tomi to act as EM's personal defense attorney. A post formally held by thiefessa.
Eh? WTF is this, Brethren?
So, yet another cinematic trailer with dodgy writing. Par for the course, it seems.
Still, I don't understand what about this trailer makes it the worst trailer they've released. The writing is not so great, but it's no worse then many previous trailers, and it's less melodramatic, which seems an improvement. The "gameplay" shots are solidly focused on sneaking, with no action at all.
(The lack of action, btw, continues to be pretty impressive. I don't think EM are getting enough credit around these parts for the complete emphasis on pure stealth in their promotional material.)
Of the complaints raised in this thread, I sympathize with two: the overall sub-par writing, and the share stats with your friends business. Responding to other complaints:
The glowing loot has been done in a thief trailer before. I can't remember whether people complained about it at the time or not, but it's hardly unique to EM. At least EM have a decent stated reason for putting it in!
Complaining about "I'm in" is completely ridiculous. Garrett often makes such comments. Distinguishing between "inside at last" and "I'm in" is really desperate. They both say exactly the same thing. Funnily enough, for once, EM has actually chosen a line with
less drama!
We don't know whether this uses any original assets or not. We also don't know how much of the budget for this came out of the budget for the rest of the game. If the game's release date has been postponed in order to free up assets to work on this, it's even possible it will lead to an improved game (as a general rule of thumb, less people spending more time will produce higher quality software then more people spending less time, and I imagine that's doubly true for games).

Yes. Well sort of. I just can't understand how someone can be completely devoid of criticism. I assume we're talking about two people in particular here. I used to think that was their job, to defend everything Eidos does. But now, it would seem to me they just like defending this crappy looking game. On their own, for free. Whatever, you can't debate with those people.
Anyway, in regards to the trailer. I really hope people don't fall for this. If everyone just waits for the Steam Holiday sale 2014 you can buy the full game with this mission for under $10. Publishers shouldn't be able to get away with this nonsense. This is a transparent ploy to appeal to old fans that are on the fence with what will probably be a 30 minute or less half-assed mission. The Tracer Tong mission from DX:HR was not particularly good. These types of things almost never are.

Oh look, a pre-order bonus for in-game content that should be included on the disk to begin with:tsktsk: Man, is this a fad I wish would die.
As it is, it sounds more like a challenge mode map with leaderboards in mind rather than a story mission, so I doubt we'll miss out on much. Besides, I bet once this level is released, one of the talented fan mission creators on here will probably recreate it in NewDark, allowing us to play through the scenario as classic Garrett with none of the gameplay or story limitations of the reboot to hold us back. It may not necessarily happen, but hey, I can dream;)

00:32, Take the loot, track your time and beat your friends.
This is exactly what it will be, a challenge map, independent of the story.
Just like Dishonored Dunwall City Trials and just like the TMA FM that I can't seem to find now, people were posting their times via screenshots. Was this not a home grown challenge map?
People like to compete against each other, if you don't like it, don't play.

Well then call me dumb because i'm looking forward to this, have been since it was announced.
Edit: Just read the article on the EM blog, in my opinion this will be like the loot at the end of TDP training, you get the Star of Auldale and start the campaign with more money.

This seems to be the general lackluster tone of the new game.
