Which one is the special patch? I don't see nothing 'special' =(

Thanks for the link, but that's for Thief 2. I don't know what version of Thief you are asking me =S where can I see that?
To try what you say, 'different versions', I have dowloaded by torrent the Thief Gold, and it happened the same.
(Thank you for your time =) I hope i'm not bothering you)

Right-click on the game exe file (e.g. thief.exe), and select Properties from the drop-down list. Choose the "Version" tab at the top, and then select "Product Version".
Thief unpatched is v.1.14 and Thief 2 unpatched is v.1.00. If you've successfully patched them, then they should be 1.33 and 1.18 respectively.
If that still doesn't work, then I suggest installing DDFix manually as that fixes most problems for nVidia cards.

I saw the version of my Thief, and my thief is not patched. The installation is not modified, I tried a lot of times to patch it, but before it ends, it happens the error I said before.
:(
It's so sad because I paid for this game, I want to play it so much... and makes me shy to wasting your time. Thank you!
What else can I do to fix it? =(

Just to confirm, the patches we're talking about in this thread are the official patches made by Looking Glass, i.e. they fix a few minor bugs with the games. You don't need to patch any of the Thief games to be able to play them.
Remove all the Thief games you're having trouble with via the "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel, and then delete the game directories just to make sure. Then do the following:
1) Install one of the games.
2) [Optional] If it's Thief The Dark Project or Thief 2 The Metal Age, then install the patch:
(
http://thief-thecircle.com/download.asp?fid=264) Thief The Dark Project official patch
(
http://thief-thecircle.com/download.asp?fid=265) Thief 2 The Metal Age official patch
(
http://thief-thecircle.com/download.asp?fid=423) Thief 2 Premier patch
3) Run the game, and it will crash. It will however populate some lines in the file cam.cfg you need to edit in [8].
4) Download (
http://timeslip.chorrol.com/ddfix.html) DDFix, and put the files ddfix.dll and ddfix.ini into the game directory.
5) Install (
http://www.pspad.com/) PSPad, and use it to open the game file (thief.exe or thief2.exe) with the hex editor tool (File -> Open in Hex Editor).
6) Change the first instance of the phrase "ddraw.dll" to be "ddfix.dll", save the file and then exit PSPad.
7) Open ddfix.ini in Notepad, and set the resolution to be 1280 1024, and the MultiCoreFix to be 1.
8) Open cam.cfg in the game directory with Notepad, and edit the line with game_screen_size to say "game_screen_size 1280 1024" (without the quotes). Save and exit Notepad.
9) Run Thief and be happy.

hi,
i tried to install ddfix.dll in thief.exe. when i opened it with pspad, open w/hex editor, i don't see any instance of ddraw or any other acronym. just numerals. of course it would be all numerals since it's a hex editor. i'm not computer programming literate but it seems that hex editor is not an environment for anything composed of letters. i'd like to install ddfix but don't see how.
i'm running xp svc pack 3 with radeon 9600 catalyst version 10.2.thief runs up to the equip loadout and when "play mission" is selected it goes to black screen and stops.
i'd REALLY like to know how to install ddfix.dll into thief.exe and/or why it does not play.
thanks for help
