Hello all,
Just cracked open my old thief games in a hope to play them again. I attempted to play them(Thief Gold specifically) by installing them like i did on my old xp system through the ":\setup.exe -lgntforce" I also have been fiddling constantly with the compatibility options like many of the threads suggest. Just wondering if anyone else had run into the problem i have such as the Install wizard not even beginning, just an arrow with the hourglass rotating for afew seconds, disappear..then nothing. Thanks to those who reply.:D

make sure you run the setup as admin, and try giving it a lot of time-up to one hour.if that fails, you can install the game manually, just by copying the data to your hdd and creating the cfg files.

Thanks for the response...I guess Im going to have to manually install the game. Do i just copy all the files from both cds into a single file on my hard-drive? Never installed a game like that before(or had to). Is there a thread that runs this down for me?

actually,I never had to do a manual install myself, but basically, yes, you will have to copy all files from the cd(s) to one folder on your hdd,and create the cfg files so the game will know where to find its files..try looking here: (

Maybe try tafferpatcher? >(

I remember my friend had this issue. The manual install appears to be the way to go. Otherwise, tafferpatcher might do the trick.

But in particular if D: has setup,

D:\setup -lgntforce[/INDENT]
Edit: oops. I see you tried that ... can you read the CDs? Try copying all the contents from all of them to a local drive and running it from there with administrator privilege.
