another bump - I know that a complete overhaul is a bit of a pita, but deleting the outdated stuff should only take a couple of minutes.

A bump isn't needed? This thread is stickied already. As for the old stuff, I see no point in removing it, it can still be relevant. Sure there's some out of date stuff, but unless something is completely useless now I think it's fine. If you have something specific you'd like to address, I'll take a look.
Also, it might be time to hand this over to someone else. I wish you could make it so that more than one member could edit the OP, but only I can edit it (or moderators of course, which isn't their job to edit this thread.)

Thief 3 freezes (locks up) when using a widescreen resolution. What can I do to fix it? - points to an old fix with a broken link. sneaky update should be linked there.
Link: Click here OLD (posted by clearing) - same thing.
Thief 1, Gold, and/or 2 freezes or shows a black screen (direct 3d device does not accurately report texture memory usage) on startup or when starting a mission; what should I do? - this is very, very old stuff. probably should be tagged as such, or removed.
When I try to play Thief by clicking on the shortcut nothing happens or the game crashes! - this will probably do more harm than good as well.
What is DDFix? - again, a note about DDFix being deprecated would be nice. we don't want people to download and use it unless they are trying to do something very specific.
Game freezes/crashes within a minute / Running Thief on a Dual-Processor/Dual Core System or Got a Pentium 4 with Hyper-threading - again, mostly old stuff. a link to the NewDark topic would be better.
Game Stops Responding (Hangs) or Quits Unexpectedly When Introductory Video Clip Is Played - the same.
generally, there is a lot of stuff that can be considered useless (yes, still valid in theory, but come on - do we really want people reading about 10 year old drivers, and DDFix gui?). generally, you don't really want useless stuff (a.k.a. stuff that is maybe relevant to every 1000th user) in FAQs. maybe it's time to archive the current version and do some serious streamlining.

Thanks, I've made some modifications to the thread. I should have said this in my last post, but a lot of this stuff is old because I copied it from the original thread that was stickied and only added new stuff in addition to it.
After reviewing the things you mentioned, I can see what you mean, but don't entirely agree with you're general sentiment. However, I guess if people really wanted to they could go find the old archived FAQ (assuming this can be done easily), so perhaps I could delete a bunch of old stuff in this thread. I just figured it'd be best to keep some old stuff in there just in case someone out there needs it. Also, looking at the post date, it's been three years since I originally posted this so there was definitely need for an update in regards to NewDark specifically, which Nickie did a rather nice job of addressing by editing my post.

as long as there is no bad stuff like broken links and old fixes that do more harm than good, any form is ok I guess.
it's not like anyone reads FAQs these days.. -_-

Sorry again to resurrect a post, but I don't believe there is anything in the sticky about this; where are Thief 3 Screenshots located? Do they only work by pressing Print Screen then leaving the game to paste it into an image? I want to do blog reviews of Thief 3 FMs, but the screenshots are outrageously time consuming this way.

You could use FRAPS.
Just configure it to hide the ugly fps numbers and simply use its convenient screenshot feature.

T3 doesn't have a built-in screenshot function, unfortunately. An alternative to Fraps is (

Many thanks! Dxtory looks great and will likely help me out with more than just the screenshots.:thumb: Downloading...
