I don't have any other games installed besides Thief 3 (which has always been impossible to alt tab out of) and TF2. I tried TF2 and I am having the same issue.

Try to disable Aero Peek.
The Black Cat on 21/5/2018 at 08:15
Aero Peek is already disabled.

Maybe it's a (un)known issue with that Windows update you mentioned? Which one?
The Black Cat on 21/5/2018 at 08:43
I noticed that after the update, Windows started telling me it would be "quiet" while gaming and I had a feeling the issue might have been related to that. Thank you so much!

Trying to install Thief Gold (German version) on Windows 8.1 Pro. The last time I played the game was in 2011. I gave my original CDs away since then but I still have the archive copies of fresh installs I made to make reinstalling the game easier.
I seem to be missing 3 of 12 crf files during installation of TFix_1.26a: bitmap.crf, books.crf and interface.crf.
Any idea where to get these three files? I could just buy another copy from GOG.COM, but I prefer the German version of the guard voices and they only have the English version.
Here is what I did, step by step:
* Downloaded TFix_1.26a from (
https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1IBHrptQF-FmfR6ZTYkKei84z8q9GWJAj&export=download)
* Downloaded Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from (
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5582)
* Installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86), selecting the option "Repair" during the installation since I already had it installed
* Downloaded DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) from (
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109)
* Installed DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)
* Copied the content of my archive folder with the German version of Thief Gold from "Fresh Installs\The Dark Project" to C:\Thief
* Started Thief Fixer Installer via TFix_1.26a.exe
* Deselected ALL components to install (T2 Skies, T2 Water etc.)
* Installed Thief Fixer to C:\Thief\
* Error: "bitmap.crf move has failed. Move all 12 files with crf extension from your Thief folder into RES manually when you're done patching (no crf files must be left in the Thief folder). Reinstall Thief (full install) if some crf files are missing completely."
* Error: "books.crf move has failed. Move all 12 files with crf extension from your Thief folder into RES manually when you're done patching (no crf files must be left in the Thief folder). Reinstall Thief (full install) if some crf files are missing completely."
* Error: "interface.crf move has failed. Move all 12 files with crf extension from your Thief folder into RES manually when you're done patching (no crf files must be left in the Thief folder). Reinstall Thief (full install) if some crf files are missing completely."
* Continued installation of Thief Fixer
* Message: "Disable anti-aliasing? Choose yes if you use an onboard (especially Intel) or very slow dedicated graphics card. If you have no idea, Yes is the safer option."
* Selected "Yes"
* Finished installation of Thief Fixer
* Checked C:\Thief\ and found 0 files with crf extension
* Checked C:\Thief\RES\ and found 9 files with crf extension
* Checked \Fresh Installs\The Dark Project and found 9 files with crf extension (
bitmap.crf, books.crf and interface.crf are missing.)

Create a folder "RES" if it isn't there already and copy the crf resources from the archive into this folder.
Check install.cfg
It has to point to the RES folder (resname_base).
PM me.
