That's one of those missions without side stories that wait to be revealed while reading scrolls. It has the canal with the entry to the lost city though.

On hard you have to get back home. So you can sight see all you want.

No, that's not true. Objective to return home only appears if AI will spot you (but if it will hear you from far away, but not see you that's fine), if AI will find unconscious body or alarm will get triggered.
As for rokstok's situation - it's probably that exit objective is triggered only around Ramirez Mansion. I guess LGS never expected that players will complete last objective while being in city part.

That thing about taking Ramirez body outside the mansion is interesting. Makes me wonder if you can mess with the objectives by somehow throwing Basso or Cavador over the finish line, then picking them up afterwards when you have already crossed it yourself.
On another note, Assassin's has one of my favourite lines at the start - "That shot was meant for me". Garrett doesn't express any shock or concern about the poor guy who has just been murdered right in front of him. His one and only reaction is to think about how it was him the assassins were going for:)

Interesting. The Assassins demo was my first experience with Thief and I remember running the gaulntlet of guards, I replayed all three games last year and thought that maybe the objective to return home was only in the demo because I didn't need to do that this time round, must have improved :D.
Being my first Thief mission, I'll always have a soft spot for it but I think some other missions in the game shine brighter. Most of the negatives I feel are in comparison to the quality of fan missions out there these days.
