Thief Reloaded Contest FM: The Revenge of Lt Hagen by FireMage (05 Feb 2011) - by Sagittal

There are actually a few different behaviours of Melinda mixed together that explain what you are seeing. When Melinda is knocked out or killed on the bridge where she appears, she may indeed partially sink into the ground, she may become invisible, and she may become invisible while a small strip of her face around the eyes stays visible. These are actually three different things; the still visible eyes might even be what the mission author originally intended, for there is a readable in the mission in which someone reports seeing a pair of eyes, and during the game it becomes clear that Melinda must be the one whose eyes were visible.
Anyway, the latest version of the DML fix looks much better than the one here in this thread, and if you can restrain yourself for some days, you might finally get one where even I won't turn up any important new problems.;) (Of course I won't promise anything regarding this matter...:ebil:)
FireMage once again shows a lot of interesting ideas that might have been ahead of the time when the mission was made, but finally, people like Jax are able to fix the problems and let the player experience things as close as possible to what the original author once intended.

The efforts people are putting in to make this FM work correctly are commendable. But if it is to reach anything like its full potential I think something will also have to be done about the English in the readables and in the custom spoken dialogue. Much of it is ungrammatical which makes it meaningless or highly ambiguous, and some of the spoken lines are hard to make out and/or overlap with other spoken lines.
Incidentally, on my last run through I killed Melinda but despite looking all over the place I couldn't seem to find the next target, which I think may be Sammy.

Sadly we can't change books or voice scripts, or even ambient sounds with dml's. Occasionally I've released missions with fixed books and even gone fully full Garrett and released translated versions of missions, but both of those mean releasing updated version of missions, which could be done but we would not even think about changing any of the speech files, after all if you can understand them they are quite amusing as well has bringing a ‘Allo Allo' charm to the mission.
As for Sammy you need to kill 5 people to get him to spawn, Bogdan, Zelir, Alonso, Logan and Melinda. He should appear in the front desk but on occasions Baeuchlein found him elsewhere.

Zelir is the one of the seven rogues who is most elusive. If you really can't find him, look in the caves under Shoalsgate station for a secret switch, then look not very far for what that "switch" did.
The place where Sam(m)y might be if Zelir is dead and Sammy nowhere to be found is the entrance to the sewage treatment plant.
Concerning the voices of the conversations, I thought about whether it would be okay for FireMage if we wrote subtitle files for the english conversations. I also found them not easy to understand. But the decision should be left to FireMage.

I killed Zelir earlier, possibly the first in the sequence of kills. Sammy is nowhere to be found.
I am aware that the language issues cannot be fixed through DML, and that it would have to be done with the consent of the author. My remarks were intended for the author.

Are you sure everybody is actually dead? You need to keep hitting them with your sword till no more blood comes out, or drop them in some water.
If all else fails post a save.

I have sent you a link to a save game in a PM.

dml for this mission has now been updated, see (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134795&p=2490551&viewfull=1#post2490551) here.
The dml is not perfect as you can still break the mission if you are determined, and Melinda is still a little buggy but we don't think we can do a lot more as there is a lot of complex scripting and each time we solved one problem another one cropped up, but if you play the mission in the intended way you'll be rewarded with a great contest mission that includes a lot of clever ideas.
Huge thanks to Jax for making the dml and Baeuchlein for the extensive testing.
