but, yeah, you could ask him if there is any news and maybe suggest if someone else can perform the work.
I've already proposed a right person for that kind of work, but seems that the root of the problem is Eidos' legal department. Alas, I think Eidos will never publish the source, no matter what :(. And they still wonder why Thief community don't like them... Nevermind.

How many signatures did the petition to get the Dark Souls engine source code released attract? Or the petition to change the Dark Souls voice actor?
So what? I still think that no matter what a petition is trying to achieve, the count of the signs demonstrates how popular the game is.

I disagree - it shows how many people care about the issue in the petition. And you are comparing petitions about details with petitions about getting the game released at all on a particular platform. Stuff like the main VA in Thief may be important to some people, but to others it may come under things they are prepared to wait and see about. For instance, I really enjoyed Hitman but I could care less about what he sounds like. I bet you there are a lot of people who played Thief and are excited about it coming out, but simple aren't bothered enough about what Garrett sounds like to pester the devs about it.

Really? So, where are they now and why don't they want to participate in the polls here?

uh... because read my post again?

There could be lots of people who enjoyed the old games enough to buy the new one, but who haven't been keeping up with the latest developments in this community for the last 15 years. Even as a frequent lurker back in the day, it took me several years to finally take the plunge and see what fan missions were all about (and I never looked back). There's no requirement for Thief fans to be involved in the online community, and anyone who didn't get hooked on fan missions probably let Thief slip to a dark cupboard somewhere in their mind.
I didn't follow the petition about Dark Souls, but it presumably happened when it was a new product with a lot of hype surrounding it (I haven't gotten around to playing it yet (I did purchase it on Steam, though), but several people I know were playing it at the same time when it first came out). Not only that, but a lot of people who signed the Dark Souls petition were probably unable to play the game without a PC version being made (unless they bought a console just for that game).
On top of what Vivian said, there's a big difference between a new game with a lot of concentrated buzz and a series that has officially (in terms of official releases) been dormant for 10 years.

Hi! I'm right here.
I loved the Thief games and I'm looking forward to this new one. I don't mind if the devs do something new with the IP (including having a new voiceactor) as long as it turns out good. This latest news about the poor state of the engine is the first legitimately bad news I've heard about the game so far.
A petition for the source code though? Why would I care about that? If I feel tempted to play any FMs these days I'll load up TDM. Will access to the sourcecode make the originals look and play better than TDM?

A real shame you haven't taken on board B1skit's endeavours and appear to have given up. :wot:
If it was me, I would not give up until B1skit actually stated that the legal department said it was a "no-go". That would be a final answer; and I'd move on at that point.
I'm not saying you're wrong to give up, by the way, we are all different. :)
I have no idea if they would wonder whether you like them or not. Seems a strange statement to make, but not for me to comment on.

Legal permission will open up creative possibilities. Broken Glass purposely avoid developing certain things to avoid infringement.
EM aren't doing anything new with the IP. They are doing things that other games and FMs do already, but are avoiding Thief itself like an undead plague.

While it would be nice to have the source code officially released, it's hard to care too much about it anymore with the "unofficial" version out there in the open and apparently being tweaked by someone behind the scenes.
