Hmm, what version of video driver are you using? I think that for most people upgrading the video driver works... could easily be wrong though.

I'm using ddfix and the widescreen patch, if that makes any difference.
I don't use any of these, and yet I have a problem with gamma correction once I am thrown out of the game (mostly due to another program suppoed to run in the background but which decides for some reason it
has to notify me immediately about its stubbed toe or a similar emergency). Usually, Windows dekstop is brighter than normal after that, but when I switch back to
Thief 2, it's much darker than before.
By the way, I usually play with a picture which looks brighter due to changed gamma value. Maybe the video driver does not recognize the change from
Thief 2 to Windows, and when one goes back to
Thief 2, gamma is changed back to the desktop "value".
Anyway, my cards in this case were Radeon cards, the 9250 and 9550. It definitely happens with the 9550, Windows XP and Catalyst 5.2 (yes, I know it's ancient), but I'm fairly certain it happened with the 9250 and Windows 98 SE as well.

Never had that problem with any of my ATI cards. But then I never used the ATI generated drivers.
I don't know about the newer cards, but most, including ATI, have had problems with THIEF. In many cases dropping to an earlier driver has solved the problem. In the case of the Catalyst drivers, for RADEON cards, you might clean out ALL the Radeon drivers and try a older one.
Take a look at the (
www.omegadriver.net) website and see what is available there. His drivers have always been better than the "Official" ATI or GeForce drivers.
