" Friggin' "?
:D
I wonder if they added a censored version after all the complaints about how the swearing felt out of place.
SubJeff on 14/2/2014 at 23:13
Watch a bit of it without sound.
Whatever is wrong with it it looks the part. And it really doesn't look anything like Dishonoured.
Nuth on 14/2/2014 at 23:14
Possibly. Swearing seems out of place in my idea of what a Thief game should be, but it didn't seem out of place in EM's vision of Thief. "Friggin" seems out of place to me in both.

I am really not sure what you're talking about. There's plenty of good ambient sound in this video.
Let's try it this way: Give me three examples of in-game ambient audio that impressed you in the first Thief game.
Then name three examples of memorable ambient audio from this video (and please mention where exactly in the video I can find those).

Let's not? That's getting into levels of 100% subjective pedantery and we're trying to raise the quality of discourse in this place.

You're a funny guy. Bitching for a bitching's sake. Maybe it's hard to find a memorable audio in short gameplay video... Besides, there's a switch for you called 'turn off the music', so you shouldn't be terrorized.

It isn't exactly a fair comparison anyway, comparing ambient audio of a full game that we've all played, to a Youtube video of one mission that none of us have played.
You only really notice these things while you're playing the game by yourself, and even then there's something wrong if you're paying too much attention to ambient sounds.

That's quite frankly a silly thing to ask. If this had been done with the original Thief, the only "memorable" bit would likely have been the guards talking about the bear pits, and that only if the player hung around the gate waiting for it - something they're unlikely to do in a marketing video.

Someone posted a video on a discussion forum. I posted my observations/opinions on what I made out from that video. I'm allowed to have an opinion, right?

What are you talking about? The damn thing runs 20 minutes!

While the music is indeed rubbish, I was really complaining about the near-absence of the dark, ambient noise that made games like Thief and Shock 2 memorable.

Again, I'm talking about AMBIENT sound, not voice work!
There's plenty of examples of that even in the Bafford mission.
I'm still waiting for Mr Godzilla enlightening me on how the ambient sound design in this is not totally forgettable.

I agree with you of course, but I am not very popular around here, these days. Music and sound is my thing, and that is one of the things I noticed as well. I kept thinking, looks good, but... something is missing. I too, like to speak of the truth, but its too close to release day for such trivial things as the truth. Get on board, or get run over like me!
