Good points all around Gryzemuis. At this point, I almost think it would have been weird to have Stephen Russell voicing Garrett, just because this Garrett is so different than that one we know
I'm just curious, can you explain your thoughts on how "this Garrett is so different than that one we know"? Other than a different voice actor and some updated gadgetry...

Watching the stream. All I can say is that the game is much worse than we thought.
...I'm going to give you a hint. There's a reason why the devs have insisted on talking all over the gameplay.
Wow, what a surprise - I bet no one expected you of all people to come up with some negative comments. :p

The "new Garrett" character seems more clearly defined to me, whereas the "old Garrett" was a bit more mysterious.

A cleary defined character can be a good thing, as long as his character is consistent and credible.

NuGarrett is a trophy hunting thrill seeker who loves to steal.
TruGarrett didn't even like to steal. He stole for the money.

The original Garrett (OG) was a pragmatic fellow while the new one seems to have a much more romantic attitude towards his profession. Also, the old one wore less eyeshadow.

Yes, I agree with that. :) It
can be a good thing, but I think that some mystery around a character like Garrett would have worked even better.
I remember when the first pieces of information about "NuGarrett" started to come out, people were like
"oh my god, Garrett is not supposed to be like this or that, they've totally ruined him!", and loads of people had differíng opinions on what Garrett should really be like. I think a lot of people see him as a some kind of a selfish loner and not a very pleasant character, someone who doesn't give a damn about people around him and only cares about himself. I wouldn't go that far really, I wouldn't even use the word "anti-hero" that many people seem to use to describe Garrett.
My version of Garrett would definitely save drowning kittens from the river (too bad that NuGarrett can't swim, eh?) and little puppies from burning buildings. :p

Perhaps TruGarrett was still searching for his true self and hadn't realised that thieving is what keeps him going. :D He could have started to sell apples or something if all that he really needed was to pay the rent of that crappy little apartment.

Well, the voice has a lot to do with it, no doubt. His appearance is different too, with the fancy bow and corset outfit. But most of it is the attitude. Gryzemuis covered a lot of it, but things like "I used to steal to live, now I live to steal" just don't sound like things old Garrett would say. He seem to have a series of quotes like this that seem very unlike Garrett ("every rivet, every stitch"). It's like he's all empowered over his abilities, and wants to boast about it, whereas old Garrett just wanted to be left alone, and would just scrape by to pay his rent. Old Garrett always had a "heh" or a little chuckle in his voice, but this new guy sounds so intense and serious all the time. I can't even picture him cracking a joke. Plus, the new character seems more shallow. He doesn't seem to have any real history or background (as the original did with the Keepers), but fair is fair, we'll obviously learn more when the game comes out.
I think it's hilarious that one of the settings allows you to completely turn his voice off. Would you ever have believed that would be desirable option for a Thief game?

Yeah, new G and old G are different characters. But it is a reboot, so we could have expected small and big changes, right? I don't know yet if I could like this new protagonist, but I'm preparing for his adventures.

Hasn't he already cracked some (sort of) jokes in the gameplay videos that we've seen? Don't ask me to give any examples though, I haven't paid that much attention to the dialogue and I have a terrible memory, but I'm fairly sure that I remember hearing some Garrett-like "jokes".
