Now that I'm trying to suffer through Deadly Shadows for the millionth time I can say that absolutely everything that game does is irritating. I don't know why I'm doing this to myself.

Regarding that why the Eye seems to sabotage its own escape: it´s just there to have a little bit of enjoyment and is proabably testing if Garrett is worthy enough to escape...

I guess we Thief-fans never learn.
Every few years I think back to TDS and remember the booming voices of the scary sky-high statues, the unnerving night in the Cradle, the sad old lady on top of the tower and the beautiful ending. Thinking to myself, "
It wasn't all that bad, surely not." I wipe off the single hot tear that made it through the gate of my pride and start the game.
Only to be greeted by Garrett, wobbling as if the Builder himself has striken him with his hammer, unable to jump and knockout anyone as the Trickster has stuffed his limbs with wool and defeating the ancient evil by dropping an oilflask on a flight of stairs...

Ladders...is there a way to unstick yourself from them without jumping or moving perfectly perpendicular? If I could just unstick myself with say crouch that would be awesome.
Also this weird bug I sometimes get where Garrett is stuck in run mode and I have to restart to fix it. Or when sometimes my keybinds are completely ignored and no matter the changes I make the game won't recognize them. Maybe new dark fixes all of these.

Maybe I don't get this  , but whenever I climb
down a ladder and want to get off of it I use "toggle crouch". Especially to like, save the last 2-3 meters so I am quicker as climbing the whole thing down to the end. Upwards I go over or jump.

Thief 3 final mission
Because I've played the original missions and lots of fan games I tend to think the most obvious route is probably going to be the most difficult and full of traps, so I take some time and look for alternatives and I'll go the obvious way if I can't find a better route.
So when heading for the final showdown the most obvious route screamed trap loud and clear so I went all round the map & came in through another entrance, lo and behold there were the bad guys staring fixedly at the place I would have appeared had I gone the obvious way, I hate gotcha's like that.
That wasn't the issue though, the futaffin eye was the issue, because I went the 'wrong' way round it triggered about 3 different speeches from the eye all at the same time so I had random gibberish being whispered at me some of which might have been important, as I remember when the eye speaks it's usually saying something I need to know.
If anyones interested, then from memory as it's been a while so apologies for errors, there's the square in front of Garret's digs with the fountain in it, looking past the fountain from his digs there's a wall which if you climb you get to an attic, go through the attic and there's a street with a weapons shop and a grate where money got left earlier in the game, at the bottom of the street there's a wall in which a portal eventually opens, can't remember where it links to but that's the way I came back to the fountain, soon as I got through that portal the eye developed verbal diarrhoea

For me it's "Hold Crouch" button. Works on ropes too.

I prefer to have Garrett run by default, but sometimes get stuck in walk mode. Pressing CAPS fixes this so maybe that might help when things are the other way around.

That used to work for me but after my most recent reinstall only jump works. I'm too short on time to fuss with it so eh...

Pro tip: Remove the Caps-Lock key from your keyboard. It's just annoying and not good for anything.

Actually, the only reliable way of getting off ropes and ladders is to jump away from the rope without a mantling opportunity near. Don't ask me how often I died in the sewers at Bafford's place until I had learned that.
P.S.: And the only reliable way to ger *on* a ladder that goes down is to move backwards towards the ladder.
