"Spider butt-vision"
Or the human-like death gargles they give. Or cries when they spot you. Or how about just listing the entire spiders themselves as irritants. They were never that popular where they, either here or in System Shock 2. Though at least there you could shoot them.
You can shoot them quite easily in Thief as well. One broadhead and the spider is toast! At least that's how I do it.

For me it's the key to the left of the 1 key, with ` and ~ on it.
For me that's the un-equip button. It doesn't just denock the arrow but puts the whole bow away, and you have to re-equip it.
Purgator's tip about releasing w near the water surface is very useful though!

Garrett's inability to silently run down the staircases. Always making a noise and alerting somebody unless you go slowly.

Oh heavens yes! Although it's only some staircases which makes it even more annoying.
Garrett's movement in general... amazing how he had no problem getting used to move/jump/grasp on the fly after getting an eye plucked out but between T2 and TDS something much more horrible happened to him. Anyway, only taking T1/T2 OM into account:
- Garrett picking a chest and picking up worthless trash (vase/hammer/bedroll)... how... why?
- walking along a ledge with small notches every human being would just get pushed aside a tiny bit (at best!) but Garrett bounces off like someone shot a fire arrow between him and the wall
- jumping down towards a rope - regardless of pressing any key, sometimes Garrett makes the most impossible catch, sometime he falls and sometimes he catches only to bounce off unmotivated, defying any momentum or physics
Undercover: glad to read that others have problem too.
Sometimes I enter, kneel down and start piously praying silently "
Master builder, blessed be thy..." only to get hammered into the floor by my brethern, another time I do cartwheels through the red areas, singing "
praisies be the woodsies namesies" while being showered with their blessings...

Yep. By far the worst feature of TMA. :-((

It's not really an irritant, but I've always found it strange that Garrett goes around the City searching for talismans, when he knows that there is another way into The Haunted Cathedral. In fact, he says it himself before RttC, "There is another way, through the gate in the cloister." If he knows this and still chooses the front door, it is strange at the very least.
Similar thing in T2. In Eavesdropping we find out that servants are weapons. In LotP we find out Karras' plan. But Garrett and Victoria are oblivious to that. None of the following missions develop the story. Soulforge might have just as easily happened right after LotP.
But... it justifies having more missions, and some of them are excellent!
Oh, and if Garrett is a master thief, why does he wear tap-dancing shoes? :cheeky:
I know, I know, for the gameplay purposes, but still :)

Regarding the shoes, King's Story was so satisfying. ;)
The loot goals were at times a bit questionable, Garrett fights his way through unnamed horrors only to arrive 30 gold short and instead of getting them the next day on the market he has to go back into the Maw of Chaos so to speak. Especially when the loot was not used for rent but for equipment for the next mission which was only bought to replace the stuff you used to get that extra loot before :wot::confused:

Maybe all the doors are magically sealed shut until the talismans unlock everything? That would make more sense than them just sealing one single door. Although what makes less sense is that The Eye seems to want to thwart it's own rescue by resealing the front doors :)

It has been three years since I played it, but didn't they still need to find out precisely
how Karras intended to use them? We don't find out about the masks and gas and delivery of the latter until those latter missions? If he had gone straight to Soulforge would he know at that point to call them all in they would do their thing?
P.S I am wondering how I missed some of those gold and gems that can be found in the Lost City in Thief II. I could have sworn those same ledges, nooks and crannys were empty when I was first there in Thief DP :)

At the end of Mage Towers where the mission cuts out in the middle of a Garrett line.
And that he says a line about a place on the submarine being a good stowaway spot irrespective of whether you have yet discovered in the mission that you will need to be stowing away.
