True enough, but who cares if it's practical?
Beleg does, heh heh heh.

They could tone down the assassin look and make him look a bit more ordinary.
That alone says quite enough, and is the exact disappointment and decision we are questioning. The rest of our comments on the matter is personal expression, but it all goes back to that "assassin" quality, and the time spent on having a Garrett that wants to be looked upon, not hidden.
Anyway, it looks like Garrett's been inspired by an old Viktoria's Secret catalog. That seductive wood nymph had to look fashionably impressive enough to become a fence for City Warden Raputo, after all.

Apparently in "Thief", instead of footsteps, guards will detect you by how much you squeak when you walk.

:laff:
I've been wondering how all that leather and no cloth wrapping could be so quiet!
Crouching's gotta be the loudest of all moves!
I've also been wondering how much harder a game like this could be if they added the audible effect of friction of the PC's apparel against the environment--while realistic, it's realism I'd never want.

That's exactly it, it squeaks and presents quite some unnecessary variables. I am aware that computer games cannot be completely realistic, but introducing elements that counter the original attempt to let the player immerse himself are a different story altogether. A backpack can still give the illusion that Garrett could carry two dozens of candle sticks, but if you've tried sneaking just with ordinary woollen cloths and a quiver on your back (or if you got any knowledge in general about stuff depicted in video games), a corsage and five belt buckles can throw you out of immersion easily.
The main problem with most these things is that it could be done "correctly" (read as: less obvious) without any loss at the side of coolness or appeal to the audience I guess. It's just that hardly anyone seems to be willing to do his homework.

That's true ZB, it would squeak...but we don't have to worry about that, because the game will probably have a "sneak mode", or at least the "auto-silent crouch" like in TDS...making all squeaks and any other noises the player makes undetectable at the push of a button.

I chuckled at the thought. :joke:
Not all leather squeaks though... and if it does, its usually because it is new and it will stop when the leather breaks in.
Solution: If its new... wear it often. :cheeky:
