Ok I saved the updated USER.cfg file or w/e. It still doesnt work. btw I installed it through "safe mode". Now I'm just clueless about this entire thing.

While we're floundering, does Vista offer compatibility modes? Forgive us, Vista has introduced some unknowns and the usual fixes often don't work. Curiously, some people have had no problems with their games on Vista at all.

I think it does, jtr7... but let's confirm.
Are you running dual core? that could be causing the game to crash. You could also set compatibility mode to windows 2000 or windows xp serice pack 2

I am running a dual. At leat I'm 99% sure. I just bought this laptop and it can play any new game on the market today(just about). How would I go about switching it to Windows 2000 or XP compatable?

Quick searched on google.:p
You have three options if that does not fix the problem:
A.) Set affinity to core 1 (CPU 0) for thief everytime you play.
B.) Use the imagecfg trick as outlined through the FAQ (takes you to another site)
C.) Use ddfix and make sure multicorefix=1 is set in ddfix.ini
If you haven't noticed already, thief has a LOT of problems with modern hardware these days. DDFIX has been such a great tool when other fixes don't work, and / or to fix problems with thief (resolution switching.)

I have a dual core Vista machine, and you can either use imagecfg or DDFix to make it work.

AHHH! I love you guys! I got it to run, but when I press "new game" it loads the mission briefing. After I see the "objective" screen and click start mission the screen goes black. Im going to fool around with it more and if I cant get it I'll come to you guys. btw I fix it by setting in to run on Windows 98. thanks everyone! Hopefully I can get the missions to work lol

Ok I switched it to run on Windows 2000. I tried playing T2X, but about 2 minutes into the game it freezes. Now The game freezes right from the start of the mission. Keep you guys updated.

Dang. If that's not the dual core problem, I don't know what it is.

I got it to work!!! I just have to change the cpu everytime but I'm not complaining. Thanks guys for everything!
