I recently bought a copy of Thief 2. However, when I click "install" it doesn't do anything. I tried the Tech support thread, but that didnt help. I have Vista and I know that is the problem. Can anyone walk me through installing Thief 2 on Vista? I'm a fan in need!

Check the FAQ on this board. It tells you how.

Welcome to the forums. As the last person said it is in the FAQ. If you still require assistance, post back.

I followed the FAQ exactly. When I type in all that stuff into "run" my computer thinks for about 4 seconds and then nothing changes. When I put the CD in it gives me the option to "Install". When I click install I eventually get a message from Vista asking me for permission (retarded i know). After I click allow, my laptop thinks for about 5 seconds and then the install menu goes away. It does that every time.

are you
sure? It's -lgntforce, with a lowercase L, not i. The reason just clicking "install" doesn't work is because window NT, 2000, XP, and Vista all use the NT kernel, and thief wasn't built to run on those systems. This is a known issue, and that's why we suggested the FAQ. If you are absolutely sure you did everything right, then I'm not sure what is wrong. You may have to try the "manual install" of thief 2 then.
The Brain outlined how to do this in a thread, don't remember where it is though.

When I try to install Thief nothing happens!
Start the installer and leave it! On some configurations of Windows XP it can take up to an hour for the installer to start.
Have you tried this yet? I know it's a PITA, but it might work? I actually recall starting a thread for my friend who had vista as well, except the -lgntforce trick did work, but the installer froze at 100%, I believe. :(

Welcome, Rogue0572!
I am moving your thread to the Legacy Gaming Technical Help Forum. You can get more specific help there.
Good luck!

I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I got it to install. The bad news....it wont play. When I click "play" the screen goes black and then minimizes into a smaller screen...and then a message pops up saying "Thief 2 has stopped working....A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I tried reading the FAQ and the closest problem I could find on there is that my graphics card is too powerful. I tried deleting the semicolon in the USER.cfg, but once I do that I cant save it because notepad is just retarded that way. all I want to do is play thief! :(

You can't save it, Rogue0572? Notepad's not the problem. Are you not running as the Administrator, or something?
Dangit! Someone had that exact problem recently and I can't find the thread.
