I recently received Thief II Metal Age from Amazon.com
My computer is
Vista 32 bit
8800GT 512mb
320 GB harddrive
3GB Ram
7.1 Soundcard
When I press install on the game, nothing happens. I checked the FAQ and it told me to put something like d/setup:lgntforce in to make it work. I changed the d:/ to e:/ because that's my CD drive. My computer doesn't give me an error message, and i feel somethings happening, but nothing does. What should I do? Do I need to give it like 30 minutes, or is there something I am doing wrong. I would really like to enjoy this game since, I haven't been able to try it and it's brand new. Thanks you for your help.

It's important to get the format of the command exactly right.
Back slash not forward slash. A space between .exe and -lgntforce, not a colon. And it's lower case L not figure 1.
e:\setup.exe -lgntforce (cut and paste this)
Good luck :)

Yes.
Maybe even 60.

My brother tried to install it on Vista 64 bit, he ran setup.exe like three times but they disappeared from the task manager after a few seconds. Then, after like half an hour there were suddenly 3 setup screens. So yeah, patience is the key.

thanks guys for your help, but I know I have typed in the command correctly, because I can hear my computer thinking, and then it stops and it goes back to a normal idle proccess. Do I need to do anything with administrator privilages or something? I have UAC off and I am the only "user" on my computer. If this doesn't work, is there any file I can download of Thief II off the internet so I can play it. I wouldn't want to, but I bought this game, fair and square.

alright, if this e/setup.exe ( etc) thing doesn't work by tomorrow, I don't know what to do. I have copied and patsed it into "run" several times, but nothing happens. I had left my computer alone for at LEAST 30 minutes. If someone would like to specifically help me, I would be forever thankful. I really need some help to play this game.

thanks to all! so far my game is working properly. However, is there a way to adjust the brightness, I can hardly see anything!
Here's how I ended up fixing it.
1. Typed in the command prompt e:/ setup.exe - lgntforce ( not exact spelling)
2. It didn't work for 2 hours, then I decided i wanted to restart my computer.
3. Computer said I had three programs running ( the three times i typed it in )
4. This actually brought me to the instllation.
5. Discovered i had to shut down all my cpu's except one.
6. game is working good so far

The + and - keys adjust the gamma by default.
There's also a gamma adjustment slider in the options.
Also, making sure to play the game at night with blackout blinds and all the lights turned off helps. :)
