So I had the novel idea to do a live Let's Play of Thief: Gold for some acquaintances of mine last night. With some fiddling and persistence I was able to get D3DWindower to work, and livestream the game. Unfortunately, I had to do it in Software Mode, because Hardware caused a lot of graphical errors (which usually don't appear in fullscreen).
I looked up and down (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113786) this thread but wasn't able to solve my problem. I was hoping somewhere here might have a better idea of what I could be doing, since it seems like almost every hardware problem in relation to Thief has been solved here at some point.
I'm running the game on Vista. It works fine in fullscreen (although I have to run it from a command prompt shortcut so as to set the CPU affinity). My graphics card is an nVidia 8800 GT, CPU is a 4-core 2.4ghz Pentium. Not sure if this makes a difference. Like I said, the game runs great until I put it into Windowed mode (even then, it still works pretty well).
Thanks for your help in advance, even if we can't figure out the issue.
Edit: After several hours of fooling with hook.ini, and giving up on that, I stumbled upon ddfix and installed it. That mostly solved my problem. Now the game appears in the upper left of the screen in a non-movable window, but that's serviceable. Only real problem remaining is that I can't change the gamma in game.
