I haven't played in ages. I recently started looking at all of the new fan missions, and thought it was time to get reacquainted. I THINK I still have gold on my computer- it is in my list of programs. But if I stick disc 2 in, I only get the "quit" message. If I try to re-install, I get the "not with nt taffer" message. I have tried the old d:\setup.exe-lgntforce prior to attempted loadings, but that hasn't helped either. I used to play the gamer with that on this computer- a Dell with XP. Has there been up-dates that disallow that now? Can anyone give any advice?

Find all referrences to TGOLD. Clean all files regarding it out.
Delete the folders from your Program list, or whereever else you find them.
Reinstall using the lgnt force command. Don't forget the SPACE between the CD drive letter and the - in the lgnt command.
With XP once you start the install. WAIT. T1 and Gold and TMA can take up to an hour to install pm XP.
It seems the system is lockedup, but in many cases it is not. For some unknown reason it just takes an inordinate amount of time.

Try this first before theBlackman's suggestion!
goto your C:\thiefg directory, or where ever you have thief gold installed.
Double click on install.cfg
If it doesn't open in notepad, then hit "Select a program to open this......" and select Notepad, or Wordpad
This should be a text file you're going to edit and change it to look like this:
install_path C:\ThiefG
language english
resname_base C:\ThiefG
load_path C:\ThiefG
script_module_path C:\ThiefG
movie_path C:\ThiefG\movies
but if your installation is in a different directory like c:\game\thief or something, just use that directory name. Mine is installed in the default c:\ThiefG folder.
Save that file, then try to restart Thief Gold and see what happens.

Tafferboy,
Nice, but only useful if he, or she, does, or already has a Full install. Your NOCD setup won't work otherwise.
And you are assuming that the installation actually took and the files are still there.

I followed Blackmans' suggestions, and am now the happy owner of a new install!
I'm such a taffer- I think it was a combination of an unsupported thief gold lingering around, plus a missing space. Nice catching that. It's been a while for me.

Glad you got it working, no matter whose suggestions you used. The missing SPACE is often the reason.
Welcome back. :D
