I examined my cd and it has quite a few scratches on it. However, one it reaches 7% the cd drive sounds like it turns off and stops reading. Any explanation for this that anyone is aware of?

Well, I'm just going to chalk it up to the cd. I just got installing the original thief 1 and it worked fine. Thanks for all the help guys!

No problem. It is unfortunate that your cd was so scratched up. My guess is that around 7%, whatever data is on the CD at that point is not being read correctly because of scratches on the disc.
However, judging on your post before the last post, that could also be what happened to my friend's laptop, except it would get to 100% and do nothing. I posted about this in the thread I mentioned. Seems to me it is the disc, but it's hard to gauge without someone who knows more about scratched discs.
Just a suggestion, but I would create a burned extra copy of thief, or go the "no cd" route. But I didn't say that....:erm: (of course you can't do that with a scratched disc, but i'd do this for any other copies of thief you have... just a suggestion of course.)
