I am running Windows 98 on a Pentium 4 computer, with a geforce 420mx (64MB) and directX6 so I can play Thief Gold. Everything was fine, and then suddenly all of the dark areas(most of the game) began to look like a photograph negative. The Direct 3d test failed, and I noticed in the "options" menu, under Video: That "Hardware" was "OFF" and could not be put on. I am at "return to the Cathedral" level, and I am going crazy trying to just play this game!!! What is worse, is that I was hoping to break out my System Shock 2 game, if this computer could play it-! I loaded Omikron Nomad Soul but it wasnt even starting. What can I do?!!
Do I need to purchase a stinking original Pentium III? Help-?

Looks like your graphics card is overheated. Please, check it - who knows, maybe you should remove some dust from it or even replace the whole card.

You don't need antiquated hardware or DX to play TG or T2 anymore, just install DDFix and you can run at modern resolutions with DX10. Try that after you get the new video card.

Too bad you don't live near me. I would hand you an old Radeon 8500LE I've had sitting in the closet for the past seven years.

The card is running great, and the computer is newly assmebled and dust free...
