Howdy, im another long time fan of thief returning to find it super complicated to get it working right. im running windows vista with a GF9600 GT, and have downloaded the DDFix patch, but when i try and run thief through it, it tells me i dont have directx6 higher installed, so i have to run it in software mode. Strange, since i have directx10 installed.
If anyone could give me some tips or refer me to a post which could, id love to play thief again but with the hardware working, so it doesnt look AS bad. Ive surfed the posts alot, but havent found anything yet. :( thanks in advance!

Bikerdude has good information nearly all the time.
I don't understand the problem. I am running all the THIEF games (and have since day one) with DX9.c. Unless you have a newer system that does not support DX, I don't know what to say.
DX is backward compatible. All the versions higher than DX6 usually support games on the earlier version.

ok, well i tried downloading that directx update, but i wasn't sure if it was going to do anything since im running directx 10 :erm: , and sure enough it didnt. Though its VERY possible I have no idea what im doing with these downloads, installs, and technical stuff as i've spent so long away from computers.
Though I found I guess I dont need to use DD-Fix strangely enough. I had tried just playing thief straight off of instal without any downloads, and it kept crashing or going black, and then I found out this new computer has dual-processors! Turned the one off, and everythings working good now, but thanks for the ideas and support anyways guys!

Glad you are up and running. Multi-core processors are often the problem. But I seem to recall that DX10 has some problems also.
That you didn't mention. But when you load the game(s), they will usually install the version that they came with unless you tell them not to.

You need to do a perm dual core fix on the thief.exe, go google "imagecfg"
