Hey there techincal Thief taffers! :)
I was trying to run EAX in Thief Gold via OpenAl, and it works fine for me except for one little (but annoying thing). Now hold on, I really wonder if someone else got this problem too, because it makes you feel like you're moving with the speed of light: When I run to the left side or to the right the player step sound appears only on the other side of the headphone speaker! As soon as I'm not moving straight, I get my footsteps like they just appear on the side I'm moving away from. Wow I'm in for a speed run now! :D
When I use hardware acceleration instead of OpenAl the game crashes as soon as I'm getting ingame.
My current solution is to play on "software sound" without EAX. :erg:
Can somebody help me or did you have the same issue? I would be happy to hear from you guys! :sly:
My setup is:
Thief Gold with current TFix applied
Windows 7 x64
Asus Xonar DX sound card
Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro Headphones

lol even if I use my onboard sound card I have the same issue - wtf?!

A bit off-topic, but I have also Beyerdynamic headphones. But the DT-990 Pro. I love the sound, much better than a small 5.1 loudspeaker system. :D

Yeah I had them also first but then chose the 770 since they're closed which is better for action games. The 990 have a brighter, clearer sound. But that's just my humble opinion. ;)
