Hi folks.
If such question was already asked and answered, feel free to merge threads / block thread etc. From what I searched, I did not found anything helpful.
Recently I got a new machine with Windows 10. I've installed Thief Gold via Steam, then I've installed latest New Dark, then Dromed Basic. The game itself and Dromed seem to work fine. The only problem is when I enter the game mode from Dromed and I go back to edit mode (alt+E) - I can not go back to game mode once again. When I try to enter the game mode for the second time, the Dromed window disappears as usual and the Thief window appears, however it does not display anything. The loading screen "buzz" sound is played and it freezes forever until I log out from windows session... I can not kill it from the process manager or task bar. I can not change the window with alt+Tab too - everything is freezed.

Don't install the game in a protected folder.

Thank you Unna. I've checked my installation and it is installed as readonly folder. Whenever I change it to read-write folder as a regular user, it switches back to readonly when I open properties again. So you say there is no way to run it properly with Steam version? Or is there any solution for Steam install?

Just copy the installation and paste it wherever you like. But not in a protected folder. If it doesn't work, run Tfix to install custom install.cfg.

From what I read, there is no such a thing as "protected folder". What you are able to do is you can set a "readonly" permission on the content of the directory in batch. It can be done with following (as described by picture author) meaningless option:
(

What I find meaningless is it checks the box automatically whenever I open the folder properties window.

It's not the case. I've checked the file properties with "attribute" display on file explorer and they are not readonly - all files other than folders are "A", meaninng archive.
I've reinstalled Tfix and it's the same.
Creating a new folder and copying all A-attributed files from thief gold directory does not fix the problem.
Edit:I've just noticed that MONO window prints following warning both when I run game mode for the first time (successfully) and for the second time (freezing entire graphical environment):
Quote:
Failed to load palette intrface\synch
Dunno if this has something to do with freezing the entire windows GUI...
Edit:I just tried (

A protected folder is
C:/Program Files (x86)
Don't forget to install DromEd toolkit.

The "Failed to load palette intrface\synch" should appear in any case at least on my installations but it can be ignored.
