Hi there.
I recently found my Thief:Gold disks hiding away in my closet and decided to play it again. I'm on Windows XP Home SP2, and had to run with the -lgntforce. Installed with no problems there. So I fired the game up. I was able to play the training mission fine.. except if I went too far ahead of the talking guy, the game would freeze, so I had to wait a few seconds after he stopped talking before continuing otherwise I'd get a freeze.
I got past the key door area in the Training, got a freeze, said screw it and started the first mission, which to my surprise, would give me the Direct3D error. So I downloaded the Direct3D fix for Gold. It loaded the mission fine, bought some loadout equipment, and hit Start Mission. To my surprise, the game crashed:
AppName: thieffixedg.exe AppVer: 1.9.0.0 ModName: thieffixedg.exe
ModVer: 1.9.0.0 Offset: 001780fc
If you want the appcombat.txt let me know.
Anyone experienced this and fixed it?
Oh, and my video card is an nVIDIA GeForce FX 5500
EDIT: Nevermind, solved it. DDFix, thank you!

Hi and thanks for these forums... I was a fan of Thief from when it first appeared, and want to get back into it again after all this time, starting from the beginning (as most good stories start).
I've installed my old Thief 1 Gold on my new HP8510p notebook. My setup: Dual Core T8100 @ 2.1GHhz, ATI HD2600 256MB, Windows XP SP2, all patches to date.
Sadly I can't get even part way through a mission without the game crashing. The crash seems to "hang" the game on the screen, but I found that behind the image Windows is still running, and it's just left the DirectX output frame on the screen so I can't see anything behind it. I'm able to pull up Task MAnager and kill the process by remembering the keystrokes. :)
It doesn't seem to crash at any specific time or event (sound or whatever - seems quite random).
Tried running DDFix, but no improvement. Also tried Darkloader, which "optimised" the game, tried running it from there but it still crashes, again at seemingly random points not far into the first mission or even the tutorial.
Can anyone suggest some more things I can try? Would love to get my all-time favourite game up and running again!!
