What are the events that you are going to donnamevans? I'll be watching your page I think - I haven't taken much notice of costumes before.
I'll be attending Midlands Expo in Telford, UK in February, and possibly May Expo and a few others as well next year.
I attended a few this year, including Summer of Sonic 2010 (dressed in a fursuit, Princess Sally) and Sudowoodo from Pokémon in May Expo and at Telford as well.
@Garras, thank you for those links to the pics BTW they are very helpful! They will help me decide on choosing the right materials when I buy stuff for Garrett's cloak this weekend. :thumb:
I was in the shop this evening and came across a wonderful glass bottle full of bubble bath...

The Cosplay costumes I have seen usually had an irritating plastic look to them (probably caused by plastic). As a...among other things... medieval re-enactor in the making I'd love to see your stuff made of more or less real and natural materials. I hope you can understand this as a good wish and not merely as nit-picking. Good luck! :)
There is a thread with a re-created Hammerite breastplate and my own Garrett clothes but I fear those pictures are not available anymore.

I am trying my best to find reasonably cheap materials for my budget, but ones that won't look out of place for the time period that Thief is set in. I have leather gloves and bracers already, and I'll be looking for pleather for my tunic sleeves and some sort of burlap for the cloak.
I also plan on machine embroidering Glyphs at the bottom of the cloak and adding small quirky details that fit ok.
I'm also going to make a sort of suede drawstring bag, that will be home to chocolate coins I'll be eating at the event.

It isn't set in a time period but is an amalgam of several centuries and entertainment media. If you want it to look authentic, then the art from the games is the best bet, and finding materials that have those characteristics, which is a lot of leather or material that at least replaces it well enough visually if you are in a hurry, otherwise, take your time and acquire materials as funding allows.
Since Garrett doesn't want anything to do with Glyphs, are you wanting to embroider them on the cloak for fans to identify the source for your character?

I think it says something about the quality and great story telling of the Thief series that it attracts members of the female pursuation more so than other fps style games. I mean its about the only pc game my wife has ever played (apart from plants vs zombies), maybe its something to do with there is always a non-violent solution to conflicts in the game?

I have until February to make my costume, but thought I'd start gathering things now.
The only things I would really have to make is the cloak and tunic.
And yes, I wanted something to make it recognisable to fans. I didn't want to be mistaken for Altair of Assassins Creed, which could possibly happen.
I might try and think of something else, but that was my initial idea.
My wooden play food, my cheese and red apple, should be with me today. I will be making a few pouches to put my items in :)

Glad I could be of some help, ma'am!
