Isn't the point of XP to allow the player to 'level up' and improve certain abilities of their character ?
So shooting people in the head can improve your lockpicking skills ?
Have I got that right ?

The complete evisceration of a series that I dearly care about is so close to happening, it hurts.
Unfortunately I must agree. So far I have managed to keep an open mind.... but this preview looked really underwhelming. It's basically Assassin's Creed by night (with the occasional bit of Dishonored thrown in).

The lack of Stephen Russel especially pissed me off in that video, their justification still stands as complete rubbish.
Not aware they had actually justified not making use of him! What was the reason they gave?
(Whatever reason it was... they were wrong. The new voice acting is pretty dire.)

What most people seem to be blatantly ignoring is that you'll likely get a massive XP dump when you complete a mission without doing anything un-stealthily. Those that angle for 40xp for a headshot will kick themselves when they find out what they've missed out on.
By the way didn't I see in that upgrade screenshot that you could purchase a damage reduction effect? How would that work? The only thing I could think of is maybe injuring a guard enough so that his cries will draw others away from an area you want to access.

No I'm just disagreeing with the idea of XP in a Thief game at all, Garrett used to be a master of his trade.
Maybe he knocked his head when he fell off the roof and forgot that in the reboot.
Darkness_Falls on 12/10/2013 at 16:11
Nope, pretty sure he's a master thief still. They just say they want you to be able to get him to "Legendary" status. It seems Garrett will be a legendary thief by the time this is over. (Heh, XP upgrades -- just what the year 2014 doctor ordered.)

This still pisses me off every time:

So why did using full performance capture mean Eidos Montreal couldn't use Russell for Garrett?
"With the new visual of Garrett we'd created, we found that there was a disconnect that we couldn't ignore between the concepted character and Stephen's voice today," Gallagher explained.
"And to answer your question directly, the actor playing Garrett needed to be able to perform his own stunts," Verbert said.
"Garrett's a really athletic guy. We could have pasted Stephen's voice on top of the actions and stunts of someone else, but this wouldn't appear natural. It really wouldn't make any sense to capture the full performance for our other characters, but not for our star."
Gallagher concluded: "We're absolutely huge fans of Stephen's work on the classic Thief games. But when it came down to it, we ultimately realised that holding onto Steven as the voice of Garrett just for the sake of our nostalgia would be like wanting to cast Sean Connery again in the new 007 movies... It's a nice thought, but honestly, it wouldn't make sense for anything else other than nostalgia."
Perform his own stunts?!?! This is a video game, not an interactive movie. Right?!

AAA designers don't seem to be able to differentiate anymore.

This may have been posted already but if there's anything that could turn me off about this game it's probably the inclusion of furry porn.
