A good year overall, with Thief 2 seeing a spike thanks to the 20th anniversary contest as well as the 1 Million Unit contest at the end of the year (some entries of which slipped into 2021, so it's a year with a good start).
As last time, I used (
http://www.taffersparadise.co.uk/) as my reference, counting the releases uploaded there.
If you have any corrections for me, feel free to tell them and I will update the graph. I haven't checked any other sites, only taffersparadise, so it's possible a mission or two may be missing somewhere (especially in TDM).
The most surprising thing of 2020 was the release of a Deadly Shadows fan mission! We haven't had any of those in a long time.
One of the three TG releases of 2020 is the re-release of Scarlet Cascabel, which is different enough from the original contest release that it deserves to be counted as a new mission for the sake of this statistic, I would say.
EDIT: Whoops, I forgot to adjust the totals at the bottom. That's fixed now, and the 2020 missions have been added to the total.
EDIT: Added a second graph containing an additional line counting the totals of each year, by request.

If you're counting the Scarlet Cascabel re-release, then there were actually 4 Thief Gold missions in 2020:
D00m/Spoonman
Ascend the Dim Valley/DirkBogan
The Hammer Skull/bbb

Actually, not to be too much of a pedant, but
all of them are 2021, right?
I counted 21 T2 missions (11 contest, 10 others), but I was including (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=150640) Switching Rails too, which is a somewhat incomplete COSAS mission released by Anarchic Fox.

Well, graphs are not very reassuring: in 3-5-7 years it will be a "game over". Unless something serious will happen. Like freeing the source under normal license or something of similar scale...

My guess is that the new FMEditor PinkDot and Marzec have been cooking may likely revitalize the community and may bring new people on board, similar to what TrenchBroom did for Quake around 2012. DromEd isn't hard to use but it's definitely not welcoming. Also, it's important to consider that Thief is an old game and that it has far less reach than Doom or Quake.

new FMEditor .
Wow, that is interesting. Thanks for the info!

I think Thief is a lot more interesting than Doom or Quake as a game and setting. I don't mean better, but you can come up with a narrative, have scripted scenes, make the player feel emotions, explore interesting places and with puzzle solving it's not all about killin' things as opposed to Doom or Quake. Those two offer immediate gameplay and maybe mapping for that is just faster too, because you're not doing a whole lot of scripting and thinking (no offense to any architects though! the design in many doom and quake maps is often astonishing). I'd LOVE to see more Thief maps made in the future, hope the community gets some more new blood. More people just need to know about the game and its possibilities.

We're 21 years into this thing. I think there's a good argument we'll be cruising at ~20 FMs a year for the long haul now. That said, it would be good to get some new blood at least getting exposed to the FM scene. Having a reservoir of over 1300 FMs is a pretty amazing achievement that people should know about!

Ah, D00m was missing from taffersparadise. Adding it.

Switching Rails is the one I didn't count as it isn't on Taffersparadise.
I haven't played it yet and I dunno how complete it is. I guess as long as it's playable enough it should go in. I'm gonna have you guys decide on whether to include it or not, considering its incomplete state.
