I'll reply myself after testing it for myself:
patching t3.exe is enough, t3main.exe (child) process will inherit 1-core allocation from t3.exe parent :).

Interesting, thief2.icd for me doesn't inherit thief2.exe so I guess the T3.exe launch process of T3main.exe is different.
Anyway If you want to play thief 3 FMs you would need to have the editor version of the t3main.exe as the out of the box one doesn't support FMs properly.
