hey guys, i'm new to the forum as of today. some brilliant ideas going on here, great to have come across it as i love the thief series and cant wait to get my hands on thief 4!!
now to this thread, i have owned thief the dark project for many years now, installing it and playing proplem-free on my last Windows Me pc. Now, with my newer Dell Dimension E520 with Microsoft Xp, thief wont run. i have the game installed, not yet patched to 1.33. Each time the game is run, it makes it to the beginning of either the training at the Keeper compound or the Lord bafford mission, and within maybe seconds, minutes or even instantly it freezes. i have to hit Alt+tab to minimise the game screen which stays covering my desktop where i must hit the windows key and navigate blind to the reset option on the start bar. i have been through the FAQ section and followed the topics but with no solution to my problem.
I love this game and always have, its fun never dies. im frustrated and sick of this freezing problem and just want to work my way through to my favourite mission, The Haunted Cathedral. PLEASE any help will be much appreciated. cheers guys

That sounds just like the dual/multi-core processor problem. Some of the info in the FAQ is out-of date so you may have skipped over this:
Quote:
Game freezes within a minute / Running Thief on a Dual-Processor/Dual Core System or Got a Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading?...
Make sure that Thief is set to only use 1 processor with High, or Realtime priority. Dark Engine games don't like dual processor systems unless they are configured in this way. Salvage has written a great FAQ on how to do it easily. You can find his FAQ (
http://www.thief-thecircle.com/guides/hyperthreading/)
here.
