Greetings,
So, the steamdeck and others like ROG Ally are amazing to play thief on. You can get insaine battery life.
Currently, Deadly shadows community Sneaky Patch will not work because it requires registry entries and so on. Which means its a no go on linux.
We need to fix this.. infact i think that all the games I, II and III should see a new install package put together that works completely fine on linux and includes everything from Tfix to the sound enhancments to the HD texture mods all in one.
But ill settle for the issue with Deadly shadows patch not working on steam OS or linux being know. Hopefully something can be done because Thief on these hand helds is awesome!

What is the problem with the Sneaky Upgrade? The registry keys should exist in a Wine/Proton environment, as long as you've run the game immediately before installing the SU.
I don't have a Steam device, so I can't test there - is there a distro which behaves like the Deck but can be installed on an ordinary PC?

I believe Steam Deck runs a modified fork of Arch Linux, with Proton? There's a page on the ArchWiki for running Steam that links to Proton as well, (
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Steam). Hopefully that helps!

Are you sure? Wine has supported registry editing for years. I've played the patch on Linux before.
I'll go ahead and install the Sneaky Upgrade right now and report back.

It does, but it's very different than a standard arch install. Bazzite or ChimeraOS would be the best options for a Steamdeck-like experience on a PC.

So, I ran the Sneaky Upgrade installer by adding it to Steam as a non-steam game and telling it to run with Proton Experimental in 'manage game':

I told it to always launch FMsel, and:

But I followed the same procedure I do to patch games on the Deck.
