Isn't there a song or/and excuse called "If I had money..."?
That is so utterly besides the point.
YOUR VIDEO CARD IS DYING. You can either buy a new one, or you can take up knitting.

At no point has it been proven that his card is in fact dying, so less of the belligerent narcissism...

Do not use the latests NVidia drivers
While I somewhat agree with this, depending on what OS he is using he might not have a choice but to get a newer driver.

* I watched the temperature and it was less than 85C on intensive games.
* I once opened my GTX 285, it had a lot of dust on it, so I removed it.
* That's not unknown on some cards, but it does seem a bit high.
* That would have been a contributory cause in the temps above.
What's the exact make and model of that GTX285? And do you have the colours-on-screen issue in any other games..?

Lolwutman, truly, it's either the video card or the driver. I'm leaning slightly more toward the driver first, but only because it's a simple (and completely free) thing to test: try downgrading the driver, as gnartsch suggested, and if that fixes the issue then problem solved. If not, then the video card is -- as dethtoll is probably right in saying -- toast.

I don't think you know what that term means.

And this just proves my point.

Hopefully it is just a driver issue, but he would be throwing away a perfect usable card if it isnt. He hasn't yet stated wither its just happing in one game or all games though?

That'd be true if you had one.

@Lolwutman, how goes it?

My OS is Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate Edition.
My GTX285, all I know about is that I bought it from some place, not online, and this one seems to be made by ASUS. It uses the default clocks unlike one of EVGA's that I've seen.
Yes, I actually have "colours-on-screen" on some other games. It seems to have happened three times on The Witcher, a lot in Warcraft 3 (and its expansion), some on Saints Row 2, perhaps Borderlands 2 but I don't remember and even Source games, mostly CSS.
But all of these, I can say they're fixed. How I fixed these? Just by downclocking my GPU. It had a Memory and Core clock of 1242 and 648 respectively, I downed it to 1220 and 624. With that setting, I didn't experience any of that annoying crash. But it still happens on TDS.

I tried that driver version he gave me, didn't work. Besides, I once tested this by using the default driver Windows installs, and yep, it still crashes.
Thing is, when I got a rather new PC, with a new motherboard, CPU and RAM, I noticed my VideoCard crash with that colour.
My CPU has TurboBoost, I heard the GTX285 is very sensitive to overclocking. Not gonna guess those are the culprits, huh? It's just the videocard dying.

My GTX285 is still useful, but not perfect :(

The fact that you had to downclock the GPU now and not earlier when you bought it says your GPU is reaching the end of its useful life. I would not expect it to last another six months.
Don't get so fucking indignant because someone had the temerity to give you advice that you don't like.

TurboBoost affects the CPU and shouldn't affect the graphics card. Although your graphics card temperatures don't sound dreadful it may be worth getting a new cooler and renewing the thermal paste on the GPU. An aftermarket cooler may also come with RAM heatsinks which although I'm not completely convinced are necessary (particularly for non-overclocked cards) won't do any harm.
It's still possible your card is dying as others have said and eventually you'll want to upgrade anyway.
