Today I discovered Thief Deadly Shadows freezes on Catalyst 9.9 and higher on my Radeon HD3870.
The game freezes (and sometimes reboots) the computer after only a couple of minutes of gameplay.
Now I remembered my card did NOT do that last year, so I installed older and older catalyst-drivers until TDS stopped freezing. Catalyst 9.8 was the One.
Anyone knows if this fine example of ATI programming is exclusive to the HD3870? :mad:

have you tried cast 9.10, 9.11 or 9.12

Lootleach: Hmm... Please try these:
1) As you may know, ATI Graphics Driver contains so named Catalyst Control Center (CCC) where you can switch so named Catalyst A.I. in one of three combinations - please try them out all.
2) If it won't help, please try a very small and pretty simple (

@Bikerdude:
I was using 9.10: Crashes every few minutes.
Then I installed the latest set, 9.12: Crashed every few minutes.
Then I installed the older 9.7: no crashes anymore.
Then I installed 9.8: no crashes.
I didn't bother with 9.9, because I had this very same problem with the game "Lost: Via Domus". I was playing that game in september when I installed 9.9 and from that moment on it started crashing. Until I went back to 9.8.
@MoroseTroll:
Catalyst A.I is turned ON, with the slider on "advanced". The setting was not changed when I tried the different catalyst drivers.
I had already used imagecfg on T3main.exe before I swapped drivers, and it was still crashing on only one CPU using 9.10/9.12.

There's a problem with imagecfg-patched t3main.exe and high version of ATI drivers. Try to restore your exes and use FlipTIB instead of imagecfg.

Lootleach: Hey, I've patched my TDS copy with FlipTIB and it works fine on my Athlon X3 + Radeon 4770 (WinXP SP2 32-bit, Catalyst 9.12).
DJ Riff: Weird... What kind of problem?
Lootleach on 24/1/2010 at 13:05
@DJRiff:
But I imagecfg-ed the T3main.exe after the game was already crashing on 9.10. The reason I did it, was because I thought the dual CPU was the problem. Obviously it wasn't, because it kept on crashing.
And on 9.8 it doesn't crash anymore, even though the T3main.exe is still imagecfg-ed. So, the only variable that f*cks up the game is using a 9.9+ catalyst.
@MoroseTroll:
How long did you play thief3, and where in the game were you?
I was in the Keeper library. Sometimes the crash only came after 10 minutes of play, sometimes after 1 minute.
EDIT: I've been playing the game for many more hours now on 9.8. Rock solid. No glitches, never crashes.

Where was I? I've completed the Training Mission. I know that it's short enough, but I wasn't hurry.
