I was using a Geforce MX420 PCI card in a U8668 Motherboard running Windows 98 on a Pentium 4 -2GB processor. While having problems running the game Thief Gold, It was suggested that the graphics card could be no good. I replaced the Pentium 4 socket with a Celeron 1.7 GB socket used durring Win98, and I also installed an old Winfast Geforce 2 card.
Now I am receiving WF2K.EXE file is linked to missing export DDRAW.DLL error messages.
I am running DirectX 6 for a reason, and I do not wish to put the latest version in as I will not be able to run my game..
This error message came up with the other set up, without the WF2K, which I am sure is related to the Winfast card- Every time I tried to load an old Beta Demo of Slave Zero-!
Any suggestions? Please?

If by "my game" you mean Thief, it's now easy to get Thief running with modern versions of DirectX using DDFix, and you even get support for higher resolution textures and widescreen resolutions. Check the big thread here for the latest downloads.

Not on that machine he wont. I don't think Win98 supports anything above DX8.
Now from the way things read, it sounds like you've swapped CPUs and graphics card, but you haven't taken the simplest option yet: reinstalling DX6. That'd be the first thing I'd do. And if that doesn't work, I'd reinstall Win98.
Hell, I remember having to reinstall Win98 every two months. That was usually the quickest way to fix any problems that could and would arise on that particular OS.

Same here. I literally had a 2 to 3 month reformat routine...it decreased significantly with XP...probably every 6 months, and now with Windows 7, I think I should be able to reduce that to a yearly house cleaning reformat.

Also System Shock 2.

Which is fine for ddfix.

Me too. Then, whether that worked or not, I'd throw the antiquated Pentium in the bin and get a decent new computer with win7. Then I'd play Thief and SS2 with ddfix and the resolution patch and marvel at how the games look better than I ever thought possible.

You could probably keep W7 going indefinitely as long as you do the occasional tidywork and keep the registry clean. I've been using Revo Uninstaller and CCleaner to clear out junk data after I get rid of something, and I have yet to experience any of the usual windows slowdown issues even after 9 months.

Ahh. I thought DDFix was DX9 only. Thing is, with as old a computer as he's got, there probably won't be any benefits with him going the DDFix route.

Only the abandoned 1.1 branch is DX9.
As long as the video card is able to render on a 32 bit frame buffer (practically any card from the past decade), the benefits of ddfix are too great to ignore.
