Hi, I've had a new pc for a while and decided finally to install thief 2
It's a vista, Intel(R) Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz
Honestly, I don't know what that means, but I'm sure you all do...
Anyway, I checked the FAQ and apparently I suffer from Hyperthreading :eww:
I'm looking at this tutorial on how to fix it
(
http://www.thief-thecircle.com/guides/hyperthreading/)
But I couldn't find, in processes, or the Thief2 folder, anything that was .icd :wot:
She's patched up and played until I got into the butler's quarters and picked up the coin - freeeeeeeeeeeeeze :D lol
aaanyone know where my .icds are :o
Thanks in advance

I'm not sure it matters. The .icd file is related to CD checking. I'm not sure why you don't have it in your thief2 folder, but try running the batch file anyway.

Windows\system32\dllcache
this folder also doesn't exist
I ran processor.bat and got this:
"C:\Program Files\Thief2>imagecfg -u thief2.exe
IMAGECFG: unable to map and load thief2.exe
C:\Program Files\Thief2>imagecfg -u thief2.icd
IMAGECFG: unable to map and load thief2.icd
C:\Program Files\Thief2>imagecfg -a 0x1 thief2.exe
IMAGECFG: unable to map and load thief2.exe
C:\Program Files\Thief2>imagecfg -a 0x1 thief2.icd
IMAGECFG: unable to map and load thief2.icd
C:\Program Files\Thief2>pause
Press any key to continue . . ."

I don't think the command prompt can recognise spaces or long folder names.
Try replacing Program Files with progra~1

Open Thief 2 to the main menu.
Alt-tab out to desktop.
Right click on taskbar, click on Task Manager.
Locate the Thief2.exe process, can sort by name to find it easier.
Right click on that entry, click on set affinity, then uncheck all but CPU 0.
After that, close out task manager, maximize game, play away. Should work fine. There are more permanent solutions to this problem if you discover that it works.
As an aside, Command prompt works perfectly fine with long file/folder names, in at least XP and vista, possibly before that as well.

I'm very sad to say that all has failed :(
Thankfully, I like to keep things, like old pcs :D
so I guess I'll have to set up a lovely piece of crap and setup dromed etc. - I had hoped not to
I thank you all for your swift responces, it seems that that old fear that thief will be left behind by advancing technology is coming true :(
-Time fan a high-quality fan remake? :cheeky::p

The command prompt works fine with spaces and long folder names, especially when they're merely the running path of the program (not part of any actual command).
If using space in a path, you need to put the name in quotes.
Asgaroth: have you tried using the pre-patched DDFix executables in (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121449) the DDFix thread? Those come with all the appropriate fixes (DDFix, dual core, etc.) already applied.

Having a similar issue.
I played Thief1 last year on an e8400 (dual-core) and ddfix worked and everything was fine and dandy.
Now I upgraded to a q9550 core2quad, and am having crashes at either:
* start of game
* after loading into game
* sometimes when checking map
* sometimes when checking objective
* sometimes after dying
edit:(
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129448) nvm it was due to Catalyst 9.8
