I try to load thief and when the intro video goes on the game crashes, so i did the skip thing in the Cam file and it works until i get to the main game.
I tried to load a mission and it just crashes.
I tried DDfix and all that does is give me a black screen instead of a main menu. I tried download the video codecs (both k-lite and the other one, but not at the same time obviously) that did not help. I looked through the fourms and google neither held the answer to this.
So please help, my computer is strong enough to run it. I do not have a dual core or anything like that but i do have xp sp2. And a 32 mb video card (rage). Also I have the ram (1024mb) and all the requirements, I do not see what is wrong! Please help! Thank You!

Have you tried changing the executable filename to "thief_.exe" with an underscore in it?
It sounds idiotic, but it worked for me when nothing else seemed to work. I think it's some sort of developer trick to skip a bunch of checking when the game runs.

Nope nothing changed. I changed the exe file to thief_. :( Any other ideas?

Mizman: AFAIK, DDFix is needed only if you have a DX10-compatible graphics card, whereas your Rage 128 Pro is DX7-compatible. I can see that your graphics card's driver dated by 2004 - I think it is WinXP build-in version. Hmm... Have you tried to install (
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/legacy-xp.aspx) an original driver?

No, it is a video driver thing. I've seen this behavior before with other games.

My driver only works with direct x6, but i will try running it with the original driver, and you think i should update my direct x too? Crap all those driver files my computer said it that the display is not compatible with??? Great... And My computer wont run direct x 7 it is not compatiblewith my computer either...Why is nothing compatible?
Thanks for all your help

Newer drivers and renderers are not compatible because of your computer's age; the hardware simply wasn't designed to work with newer technology, which is pretty much common sense since people can't see into the future.
But anyway, trying to update DirectX above version 6 is pointless, Thief runs just fine with that version.

So whats the next thing i should try? My video card is the issue, but I dont have to upgrade my direct X past 6 and I cant upgrade my video card anymore. So What else can i do? I have tried the video codeocs that did not really help. Is there anything else I could try?
