Again, she hasn't put herself forward as a 'superfan' that was EM doing that.
Actually, that was me.

EM isn't going to do a Q&A with someone here who would just bash the shit out of EM. This whole thing is just a non issue.
Agreed, I didn't start the thread to call this fan into question, the way it seemed she was promoted as the uberfan didn't sit well with me. Was just feeling nitpicky.

Seems like an accurate statement to me.

Like a Q&A feature with Vae? :) I'm sure that would go over well! It would be an interesting read... I can just imagine some Qs and As now...
Q. So, you've been following Thief for many years. Some might consider you a big fan of the franchise. What do you think of contextual jumping in the new Thief?
A. [Let your imagination run wild on what Vae's response would be, lol]

Someone has a good day and gets highlighted for doing something upbeat and positive for the community, and some of you try to tear her down and devolve it into a "bigger fan" dick measuring competition. Real classy.

While I agree questioning or judging each others fandom is dumb (do you even ghost bro?), free glowing PR for your game is hardly a positive thing for anyone but EM. Just sayin.
SubJeff on 20/9/2013 at 09:15
I'm fine with her being a fan but you can't blame anyone for rolling their eyes at that Master Taffer.
No one is trying to "tear her down". It's just amusing that they choose a photogenic girl with a heart tug story. I'm not saying it's not real, I'm not saying she isn't a fan. I'm saying that it looks a little suspicious, and it does, and that it seems a little bit cheesy, which it does. It's the cheese that makes it look suspicious.
I'd be happy to be proved wrong. It's a nice story and would be kind of sweet if Thief had really helped someone through a tough time.
That doesn't change the fact that it looks suspiciously cheesy. Many things do.
Master Taffer 512 on 20/9/2013 at 09:30
Wow, man. Because she's "photogenic" and her story is uplifting, it's suspicious. And EM, how dare they highlight members of the community that are positive contributors to the fanbase. The gall. Why don't you go whole hog and accuse her of being a fake gamer girl plant by EM while you're at it. Thief's the series that motivated me to go to school to be a game developer. It's a positive force in my life, so are you going to accuse me of embellishing that too?
Seriously, some of you continue to find new pathetically cynical lows.

Her sex shouldn't be part of the issue. The jab (
http://thiefimagines.tumblr.com/page/1) at the photos reminds me of when people used to make fun of (
http://www.ttlg.com/photoalbum/member.asp?u=180) Lazarus' TTLG photo, there's something inherently funny about putting a professional-looking photo in a fan profile.
Anyway, looking at her profile, she's apparently a huge Assassin's Creed and Thief (remake) fan, with blogs that are not older than 3 months and contain innocent and ultimately shallow montages from quotes made by other members of the Eidos community. She shouldn't get flak for any of this, however EM's quote of "one of the biggest and most active Thief fans we've ever met" is to blame for lack of clarification, as everything in her blogs gravitates around the new game.
The fact that she lives in Canada can only be a coincidence.
(Truly) random excerpts from her blogs:

http://i.imgur.com/f7g5Zrl.jpgIn other words, whether she does it on purpose or not (and one shouldn't assume malice), her blogs are (unwillingly) perfectly tailored to be great PR tools for Eidos Montreal, so their post is perfectly understandable. She's definitely been a very active fan of the new Thief recently.

You miss the mark, and just shows everyone that you are clueless to the actual circumstances...For you see MT, SE/EM has the arrogance to think that just because they bought the rights to the "Thief" brand, they automatically bought the hearts and minds of the community, as well...They foolishly assume that the "community" is
theirs, as part of the deal...:laff:
Let me make this clear:
The vast majority of the worldwide classic THIEF community has rejected EM's misguided and mislabeled "Thief" property as substandard and unworthy...In reality, EM is still knocking on the door, struggling to get support from the community...in denial, as to why they've been left out in the cold.
All they can rely upon now is astroturfing, and the indiscriminate fans that base their fandom superficially on "Thief", "Garrett", and other associated branding elements, without regard that they are merely superimposed on a homogenized stealth-action game that is incongruent with the THIEF core design philosophy...Unlike the majority of fans, who actually have standards for THIEF gameplay, universe, and character integrity.

I'm probably just old and cynical. Sadly I can't help it when I see something like this. It ticks too many boxes for me to take it seriously from what I've seen.
Again - I could be wrong. Even if I am her opinions belie a lack of insight into what has made old fans unhappy.
Good luck with your game development plans btw. I know you're studying at the moment but what stage are you at?
