Absolutely. I'm not worried about whether the current gen are capable of doing a big thief level. If they had announced from the start they were targeting the current gen I wouldn't have been concerned in the slightest.
I'm worried because it appears to be a huge change in strategy fairly late in the game.
The most charitable explanation would be that this was always a stretch goal, but they didn't want to announce it because they weren't sure it would happen. The less charitable explanations ... well, they would all seem to indicate some brand of chaos going on at SE or EM.

Looks like they're at it again:
So yeah, I'd say chaos still reigns over at SE/EM. If they're replacing D'Astous I can only wonder what else is going to be 'revised' in order for SE/EM to ensure that T4 gets pushed out the door on schedule (paraphrasing Brethren here). So far, all the changes in T4 staff haven't boded well for NuThief; I highly doubt replacing D'Astous will be beneficiary to the game. With all the comings & goings over at SE/EM it's almost starting to read like a poorly written soap opera.

Wasn't the game supposed to be for current gen first? I mean all that roumors in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and early 2012...
What if the other way round is true: they developed it for current gen first and switched to next gen later (by adding some eye candy), maybe for some subsidies of Sony or Microsoft...
And about level size, someone mentioned Skyrim ... this was released for current gen too.
I don't see any big deal here...
TDS was for first XBox (just call it XBox 1)...

I tend to think it was originally developed with current gen in mind too since it's the most natural theory, and we all know companies have reasons why they hold on disclosing all the platforms sometimes, until it's really locked in or whatever.
The punchline is that it shouldn't be like it's going to be pared back now like some people were predicting, since it already had current gen in mind, and like you say current gen isn't too bad... It won't be like the hit TDS had to take with the XBox.
Regarding the comparison to Skyrim, though, from what I know working with the Dark Mod code, stealth gameplay is a lot more processing heavy than a RPG like Skyrim... The AI code definitely sucks up a lot more processing, and the lighting may take more processing. I don't imagine you'll get the grand vista kinds of views like you could get in Skyrim... I imagine Dishonored is a good prediction of the kinds of map types we'll see, just adding streaming at the seams.

Mmmm, they said that one of the good things about next gen was the level size technical abilities.
Surely this is nullified/was bs if it's now for current gen.

The current gen can still handle large levels, far larger than anything we saw in TDS. Thing is, EM will have to cut some corners if they've designed all their mission with the PS4's 8GB memory limit in mind.

Lower res textures should not effect game behavior but save memory and to leave out some eye candy shaders could save much needed processing power without gameplay effect.
The PS3 CPU is said to be powerful and they have 3 cores. Maybe this can handle all that AI calculation stuff.
With a smaller amount of eye candy maybe it's possible to save cpu power too (draw calls and things like this).
I don't see much AI improvement in crysis 2 or 3 compared to crysis 1, but i see an impact in gpu and cpu loads.
Bad example, I know, but just to describe about the impact of eye candy with lesser impact on gameplay.

The current-gen version will keep the core gameplay and mechanics unaltered, but most graphical effects oriented to enhance the player's immersion won't be available due to hardware limitations, somehow similar to the current-gen version of Watch Dogs.
Usually I don't focus on graphics (I really enjoyed my almost ghost/clean hands playthrough of Dishonored despite the "Horrible textures") but come on! The potential of the current-gen consoles is still underrated from most developers. Have you seen the MGS 5: ground zeroes prologue footage? It's current-gen footage, only ran in a pc in high settings

Seems like a bit of a wierd thing to be getting negative about, Robert4222. It wasn't that long ago that they weren't (publicly?) going to a current-gen version at all.
