Bumped to make people aware of my mistake in the previous post.

I'm really not liking the shallow-seeming story as well as the portrayal of Garrett's character... not the visual aspect of it, that's fine. His new look is similar enough to the old look, infact strikingly similar to the fanmade T3 graphics patch masked version of Garrett, almost like they lifted the idea from there. The new voice actor doesn't really seem like he can do the sarcastic yet charming asshole character that Stephen Russell did and I still think it's a big shame that they didn't get as he was for the role available and simply does the job better as well as being a multi-talented voice actor who actually did multiple unique characters in the originals. The gameplay is neither here nor there but it looks like a lot of potentially good new additions to the genre, it depends how powerful these things really are / how spammable. They've definitely been putting their best foot forward in showing off the visuals which I have no real complaint about, but a pretty game with no real substance isn't going to be much if that's all it is.

Any chance that the whole ritual thing somehow shifted Garrett to an alternate universe? When they say the city "changed", are they meaning that literally? Maybe, before that incident, there actually were hammerites and pagans and steampunk elements, and Erin was the girl from TDS, and somehow the ritual swept all that away and replaced it with what we see now?

...and changed Garrett's voice and removed his jumping ability? :laff:

There's no jumping in Thief?! Free, press-spacebar-to-jump jumping?!

No, Garrett's jumping is now handled by a higher power - if he needs to jump, the power of God just lifts him up.

A contextual Higher power, designated pontually on the level?

You'll only be able to jump where EM says you can jump. And you'll like it, dammit. Jumping whereever and whenever you want breaks your immersion.

And if you're able to use the contextual jumping to jump on any object in the game, what then? Is it still a heinous turd of a mechanic deserving vicious hatred? Or are you just sad that you can't bunny hop for no reason?

This is a silly argument. Being able to jump when and where you want and bunny hopping for no reason are two completely different things. Perhaps I'd like to get a better view of something that's just out of sight that only a jump can assist with. I could also use a jump to create a loud noise in a certain spot to draw attention to that area, then slink around another way. There are plenty of reasons why you would potentially wish to jump in a place where there's nothing to actually jump up on.
In the end, it's really a simple thing:
more control > less control
Accusing anyone who think it's silly as just "mad because they can't bunny hop for no reason" is really specious and I think you know better.
Also, vicious hatred? Nobody is being burned at the stake here.
