I'm trying to figure out what the hell a 'mistery' is....
Is it kinda like Mr. Mister?

Does Garrett tap?
There was Basso's sister, but how that turns out, it's a mistery.
Huh! The man's so professional even this aspect of his life is put aside from the player.
I really liked that about the old games. It's completely ambiguous whether Garrett it tapping a bunch of broads and he only mentioned it once, or if Garrett isn't tapping anyone and Basso's sister is the only female attention he's had in years and he is desperately trying to impress her. Because frankly I don't care and find that kind of sub plot boring. I cringe whenever I see a heist film where 100 million dollars are on the line and the protagonist is worried about winning the favor of some woman.

It's a reboot - which basically means nothing that has happened previously has happened in this particular universe
It's a SOFT reboot, which basically means that they're picking and choosing which parts of the pre-existing continuity they're keeping as canon (and Garrett having a young female protege is
clearly intended as a nod to the Thief 3 ending). There have been previews that have made mention of Keeper glyphs appearing in the game, so while they aren't a
faction per se, they are still a part of the history of the fiction.

As far as the Keeper connection goes, just hearing "the balance has shifted" is pretty vague - that could apply to anything. It's a fairly common phrase. I think Gandalf used it in LOTR - does that make him a Keeper?
It would certainly imply he was if he was in a Thief game and not an entirely unrelated IP.

Yeah, Fafhrd you're right. I watched it again and it's highly unlikely that they'd have a mention of balance by accident.
Plus we know that there are Keeper glyphs and that the brother isn't just A Keeper library but THE Keeper Library from Thief 3.
I get The Trickster comes back to life at the end to set it up for a sequel.

My point is that there was no indication that Garrett was associated with the Keepers. The profile of Garrett in the new companion app that's coming out doesn't make any mention of him being trained by anyone but himself.
The old lady, Queen of Beggars, might be different. She's the one who mentions balance, and it's been said that she's "as old as the city." That coupled with the old Keeper Library (now a brothel) probably indicates that the Keeper Order existed a while ago and is now defunct, and she's the last remnant of their existence.

Why is he taking to her if he's not associated with them? About things that matter to him no less.
Renault on 12/12/2013 at 17:22
It could be anything - she could have summoned him, he could be following clues that eventually lead him to her, whatever. Just not enough information yet to know. I just saw a reference that she lives in a an old chapel, so for all we know it could be the Keeper Chapel in the old quarter.
Maybe when the companion app comes out in a few weeks we'll learn more.

Edit: Oops, my mistake. I misremembered what Garrett said in the trailer I mentioned. He actually said, "the powers have shifted" not "the balance has shifted." Bad info deleted.
