Running on a Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit machine
Athlon Dual Core 3Ghz (1.5GHz each)
Radeon HD XT2900 PCIe
SB X-fi Platinum
2GB of 800Mhz DDR2 Ram
The problems I'm having are unique I think.
First off:
I know how to set an affinity to a processor in order to make the game run but I can't do the perminant change because one of the windows system files that used to be found in C:/Windows/System/System32 is not there. The "System32" folder does not hold all the system files like Win 98, 2000 and XP did. So my first question is where can I find ALL of the needed files to modify when I'm writing that .bat file in my Thief Directory?
Secondly:
Whenever I play FMs, every so often the Menu screen will be stuck on the last FM that I played. This causes some other buggy effects as well. The only way I know how to clear this problem is to reinstall Thief 2.
Thirdly (if you can :) ):
On my old Radeon 9800 I could tweak on the "W fog" in order to enable the old thief fog. My new Radeon XT 2900 PCIe seems to understand my software I use to tweak it but the fog just won't enable. I use the Ray Adams Tweaker. its much better than the Rage 3D tweaker because you can use any version of CCC to run it.
Feel free to post here if you have any other thief related questions reguarding any troubleshooting. Iv'e got just about everything solved but the listed above.

No need to put things inside your system32 folder. Vista doesn't even have it anymore. You just put imagecfg.exe inside your Thief folder and then run your .bat there.

Are you using Darkloader to manage FM's?

Did you try DDFix?

If you are using Darkloader, then the cure is simple. Don't close DARKLOADER unless you INSTALL ONLY one of the original games, TDP or TGOLD, or TMA.
This will clear the menu to the original game. All saves, if any will be the original game. All FM saves will be kept in a special file and reloaded when you select the FM and hit the Darkloader PLAY button.
All your FM saves from however many FMs you have saved will load into the proper SAVES/LOAD menu when you have installed the FM with the PLAY option.

Ok I'll give that a try. I never had to install only the original on my XP system. Hope it works

Yes I did but it only perm set the Thief.cd file and not the .exe I'll give it another shot
Of course I use Darkloader! Any half-wit would be taffer knows to do that! I'll try the "install only" for my original thief BEFORE I close Darkloader. Sounds like it might work.
As far as the Radeon thing goes, no ive never even heard of that. I'll be sure to check that out as well.

Got the GUI version. Says it cannot find any occurences of Direct draw in Thief2.exe
Ok I downloaded a pre patched Thief 2 and now the DDfix GUI patch works. Fog works, perm affinity set works.
A couple of cons with this patch:
1. The menu screen resolution is also set to whatever game resolution is set to. By default the menu screen is supposed to be 640x480. This higher rezz makes the GUI mouse harder to move.
While the fog works wonderful (not in the Thief2 miss "Life of the party" as that fog in that mission was poorly done from the start) Great in Gathering at the Inn.
2. While the fog does work it has been disabling itself after sometimes reloading. The fog is also gone for good (unless you exit thief 2 and restart) if you disable the fog. The fog will not come back if this is done.
3. Once in a while the lettering under whatever object is spinning (Sword, Blackjack, water arrow ect.) will vanish and again, the only way to fix this is to restart Thief 2.
All in all this is a step in the right direction especialy for those who don't own older machines.
Hope to look for updates on this mod.

When you originally setup Darkloader, it creates a ALLSAVES file that holds all the saves for FMs and originals. (open your THIEF folder and you will see the folder).
When you stop the FM and use the INSTALL ONLY for the original game(s) all files are reverted to the ORIGINAL game sets and settings.

Ive played a bit more now and it seems whenever I veiw my objectives or look at a map, upon returning to the game the fog is gone untill I restart thief.

Did you get your SAVES to behave properly? As I recall, that's where we started. ;)

For the most part yes. I noticed when I started playing CoSaS that the Chests and Small "liftable" crates were set to the new dark wood looking design and not the cheap "original" box/chest look. Other than that so far so good.
