This thread is supposed to be about
drivers that work or don't work,
Hi Smithy
Sorry I havent put much input to this thread, but with version 1.3.10 of DDfix the driver issue is mostly mute..?!

Start the Nvidia control Panel, go to Manage 3D Settings, add an entry for Thief. Everything should be 'off', which the exception of texture filtering which is 'clamp', anti-aliasing is application controled except for gamma correction which is off, vertical sync is application controlled.
Uhm, there's a lot of Texture filtering options. Could you say the only thing I need to turn on? I'm from Denmark so sometimes I get lost in english text. :D
THANKS!
EDIT: Think I found out. Anyway, when turning off all hardware acceleration as you said earlier, you simply can't live with it. There comes this mocking Nvidia notis up about how I get my Hardware ON and it keeps mocking me.
What .EXE file should I use? The original thief thing, DDfix exe, or 3D tex. fix exe?
Sadness. Didn't work either. (I did it with newest drivers? Should I do it with the old ones)

I used those too. Guess I'm lost forever:cool:

The latest version of DDFIX works well with fog. I hate to mention the obvious, but have you checked your settings in the game menu, under Options / Video?
Yep, experimented with turning it on and off back and forth both prior to starting a mission and within a mission. Also downloaded rivatuner to make sure that "fog table emulation" was turned on, and also tried it with it off just for heck of it. No luck. I think someone in the DDfix thread mentioned that there were other reports of the same problem, although I can't remember if it was specific to the 8600M GT or specific to Vista, or both.

Less likely as in "The XP compatible version is more likely to NOT work than non-XP compatible". That seems a bit un-likely
That experience is described several places in this forum. The main issue is that patched EXEs, necessary to make DDFIX work, are not available for the newer re-release versions. Older patched EXEs are incompatible with newer versions. DDFIX is necessary to get T1 or T2 to run with newer Nvidia cards. So, if you buy an "XP compatible version", you are likely to be disappointed. As a minimum, DDFIX will probably not work, so it will look terrible with recent ATI cards, and recent Nvidia cards may not work at all, depending on video card chip sets, drivers, etc. I cannot speak for all re-release versions, but this has definitely been the experience of some people. "Less likely to work" is an apt description.
EDIT: There are other issues with re-released versions. Some, even without DDFIX and using older cards, will not run T1 with hardware rendering. I would strongly recommend against buying a re-release because of the risks.

Ouah.. I was automaticly thinking "XP-comp" = "New Nvidia comp":D
Just though that if it was XP comp, then it was renewed. My bad. I see

Okay, is is freaking good news if it works (which is what I'm asking you)
I just remembered I have a GeForce 5600 (or something) and a GeForce 6200 (something). Would this work with thief 1? (5 & 6 Nvidia series,.)

There are a lot of variables that determine how well T1 works, if at all. Those older cards will definitely work if (a) you use the right drivers as indicated here, and (b) you do not have a re-release version such as sold-out. Having wrong drivers may cause a crash. For some re-releases, some people have found that T1 will only work in software rendering. That is not working, so far as I am concerned.

A: I'll defiently use apropriate drivers. B:.. Uhm, can't remember that one:D
so.. THANKS!!! (Oh. I do not have a re-released. Oldtha!):cheeky:
