Biker,
I never realized that. I see now that is a two stage edit. You need to edit the post, and then you have the option to edit it again, at which time the title shows up.
Having established that, I still wonder if it is worthwhile.... Will it confuse things or add useful information. Please weigh in on this.

I just installed 169.21 from Nvidia's web site:
169.21_forceware_winxp_32bit_english_whql.exe
I have found no problems with Thief Gold or Thief 2 using either DDFIX or no-DDFIX versions of both TG and T2. Also played a little Doom 3. No problems so far.
Windows XP Pro SP2
7950 GT graphics card
Didn't others have problems with 169.21?
I am not going to bother testing 169.44 because it is a beta version.

Okay, so what I can gather from this extremely useful thread is the following:
I'll quickly post my current system first - Win XP, AMD 3800+, GF 7900 256MB, 2GB DDR
If I were to upgrade my system to a Core 2 Duo, a GF 8800 card (haven't decided which) and 2GB DDR2, I should still be able to play both TG and T2 with 169.21, correct? Currently both games run great, 169.21 seems to be a stable Thief driver and I am very grateful for the DDFix.
I've held off this upgrade for months because I was afraid I'd never be able to play Thief again, and that was just too costly a price.
Also, if you guys wouldn't mind...what would be a good motherboard to buy? I don't mind spending significant coin on one.
Thanks

As long as you use the newest DDfix with T2 (you may also need it to run T1, but we've had a lot of recent success without it.), then most definitely, at least if you'll be running XP. I can't comment on Vista, as I don't have it installed.

Asus P5 series, Gigabyte P35-DS series is a good choice too. Just make sure you get one that supports 45nm Wolfdale processors (eg E8400, E8500, Q9450, etc.). AFAIK motherboards with the Intel P35 chipset are still the best choice, unless you want to run Nvidia cards in SLI.

Yup, XP all the way.
DDFix for TG? I'm fairly certain there isn't one for T1/G, so I'm hoping it's as easy as extracting the GUI contents of the DDFix for T2 into the my TG folder?
I have downloaded the D3D Texture Error fix for Thief Gold, but had many problems. My game would hang after the briefing, but I found loading 'Training' then starting a new game/loading a quicksave enabled me to play. Vsync had to be forced on, of course. That all changed when I hit the Maw. The only way it was able to load was by playing it with HW mode off. :eww: By some miracle I was able to load it by quicksaving with HW mode off, dropping the resolution down to it's lowest, loading the save, turning HW mode back on, then restoring it to it's original resolution (1024x768). I'm still not even sure if that's what I actually did, but whatever I did worked!
Consider me re-assured and relieved. Thanks, EvaUnit02.

Oh, DDfix definitely works with T1. You have to use the manual install version and hexedit your game EXE (or the even easier option, (
http://ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1717673#post1717673) use a pre-patched EXE from here.). In fact, DDfix reportedly makes T1 look better than it has ever been before - it forces T1 to use 32-bit colours.

This sounds like the multi-core/hyperthreading issue. Backup and patch your EXE permanently with Imagecfg by following (
http://www.thief-thecircle.com/guides/hyperthreading/) Salvage's guide.

No problem.

Here is a report from Simplex in the DDFIX thread:

smithpd - there is no guarantee that on 8800GT both T1 and T2 will work properly withoud DDFix. I have 8800GT, 169.21 and my T2 does not run without DDFix (and SS2 neither).
smithpd on 18/4/2008 at 05:14
I just purchased an 8800 GT. It about doubled my 3DMark 06 score to 10468 when compared with a 7950 GT. Using drivers 169.21 WHQL, I can confirm that the original EXEs of Thief 2 and Thief Gold both crash. Both work great with DDFIX installed.

Here's what seemed to work for me. Running the latest 169 drivers on a GeForce 6200.
Start the game with the fix patch. Go to options, then turn off the hardware. Start or load a mission. Then turn the hardware back on.

Nothing works for me. Having that Black screen "Direct 3D Device does not accurately report texture memory usage" crash. Please see (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1733857#post1733857) this topic for info
I have a GeForce 7800GS, have tried both 169.21 and older like 163.75. Started the .exe in 98 compatible, have tried Thief: Gold Direct3D tex. fix overwrite .exe (With different driver ver.) tried DDfix too.
Conclution: None of the above works for me (Things combined)
Are about to try the other Direct3D tex. fixes.
EDIT!!!@Dread Pirate Roberts: Thanks! You just got me one step further! - Okay:
I did as you said. Launched the game. Turned off hardware. Started mission. BUT! Then it freezes at the SECOND the map starts, leaving me with a nice screenshot of the FIRST SCENE IN THIEF 1 SPOILER! :) But it's still better than not starting the mission at all! So what do I do now? I'm not able to go the the menu and turn hardware on since it frozen. The screenshot looked very crappy in color and stuff. Can you help me on this one Dread Pirate Roberts?
EDIT: Turns out I was just lucky. Crashes BEFORE the mission gets started... :( And here I though I had moved a step further.
